How does Bai Juyi evaluate Liu Yuxi?

Bai Juyi called Liu Yuxi a "poet" and admired him.

In his later years, Bai Juyi once commented on his good friend: "Cheng Peng Liu Mengde is a great poet, but he is a bold poet. If you don't work hard, you will often commit crimes. "

In the second year of Zong Baoli (826), Liu Yuxi went on strike and returned to Luoyang. Bai Juyi returned to Luoyang from Suzhou, and the two poets met in Yangzhou. Bai Juyi wrote a poem at the banquet.

Drunk, presented to Liu's 28 envoys.

You drank wine with me for me, drank wine with me, and we played chopsticks and sang songs together.

Although your poetry is first-class and can be called a national champion, it is doomed that you can't get it.

Dou Rong's eyes are decent, but you stay lonely for a long time. Full officials have their own satisfactory positions, but you are empty.

I also know that you should be very tired, but these 23 years have been too much loss.

Translation:

You live a lonely life in a remote place, and there are so many officials everywhere, but you have been demoted to foreign posts many times; I know you are famous, but you have been treated unfairly. You've lost too much in these 23 years.

Bai Juyi was deeply touched by Liu Yuxi's experience. The last two sentences say: "I also know that 23 years of name folding is too much." On the one hand, he lamented Liu Yuxi's unfortunate fate, on the other hand, he praised Liu Yuxi's talent and fame. You deserve bad luck. You are so talented! But twenty-three years of misfortune is too much. These two poems contain praise in sympathy, which is very euphemistic.
