Because Confucius once said, "The Book of Songs is 300, in a word, thinking is innocent" (The Analects of Confucius), scholars have marked every poem in the Book of Songs with the spirit of "thinking is innocent", making the Book of Songs a Confucian moral textbook. For example, Ji Zi and Preface to Shi Mao think that "schools will be abolished if they are stabbed, and schools will not be repaired in troubled times".
