Recently, the "2017 Autumn White-collar Job-hopping Index Survey Report" released by Zhaopin Recruitment shows that white-collar workers in the workplace have a low sense of belonging in big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Factors that affect the sense of belonging include house, household registration, income etc.
This result is not surprising. It is too common to enjoy and complain at the same time in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Some people think that if you don’t have a home in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, you will never be able to afford a house in your life. However, there are so many people who rent in big cities. They have no shortage of food and clothing, and they live healthy lives.
Some people feel that Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are too far away and have little to do with their lives. In fact, there are elites and ordinary people here, and people are working hard and fighting in their own positions. For the distant places of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen are their distant places, but the poems here have to be composed by oneself.
Some people think that there are too many people in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the prices are too expensive, the environment is not good, and it is not suitable for life. However, the reality is that although big cities have repeatedly restricted their population, they cannot always do so.
The survey shows that these people in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen have a relatively low sense of belonging to the city. So, has anyone investigated their sense of belonging to their hometown? What are the ownership management for other cities? I'm afraid the answer is not a question of low or not, but a question of whether or not.
If they have a higher sense of belonging to their hometown or other places, shouldn’t they appear in the questionnaire in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou?
The sense of belonging is not just about a house and a registered permanent residence. Even though most people know they don’t have a house or registered permanent residence, they still want to come. They do not want to have a place to live in a big city, but they want to be able to shine better.
Compared with second- and third-tier cities, big cities are more inclusive. No matter what skills you have, you can stretch your skills here. The sense of belonging comes from recognizing and improving oneself, having hope, living hard, reaping rewards worthy of the hard work, and meeting a better self. This is the sense of belonging.
