How to write limericks

I was very moved when I saw this question. The respondent is also a person who loves to write and write. He usually makes a few nonsense remarks when there is nothing wrong, and posts on WeChat Moments to have fun. His wife laughs and calls him "crooked poetry". In fact, many of them are limericks.

For example, the heavy rain in Beijing in 2012 swamped the country and drowned several people. Oily cloud:

It rained all night in the imperial capital, and the force came out of Pinghu.

Heaven can be peaceful, and there will be nothing to lose from now on.

Take the driver’s license test

The bright moon rises above the sea, and it’s the right time to practice driving.

I couldn’t bear the mosquito bites, so I wrote a limerick.

There is also a self-deprecation that I regard as a Zhihu signature, titled: Read "San Yisheng Poems", and recite it again

Recited it forty-six times and became crazy, still remembering three or five years of youth hour.

Everything comes to an end after a brief taste, and poetry is never intended to be cut.

Have you ever stood up to shame the clouds? Ziyu knows it and is happier.

Living in a back alley with a basket and a ladle, Xianzai is also my teacher.

Some people commented that this oil is too low. The respondent was a little scared and was just laughing at himself.

The recent Xingxiangzi read the chicken soup of old classmates and friends, and sighed about the perfect life, which is probably like this:

A journey of thousands of miles, a thousand lines of poetry. Read hundreds of people, win and lose a few times. There are three or five close friends, and two children. There is a book, a wife, and a jar of wine.

The fat must be halved and the sex should be avoided. Thank you for this life, blessing me. Sit and watch the clouds rise, and burn incense in the bamboo stream. Qiamo is in full swing, the piano is playing for a long time, and the wine is flowing in a meandering way.

No matter whether it is polished or not, whether it is a high or low level, whether outsiders criticize it or praise it, it is all my own work with pleasure, and authenticity is the most important thing.

If you only look at the works posted by the author from the perspective of limericks, they are indeed well written, humorous, and catchy to read. This is probably the advanced level of limericks. For example, your sentence "Going through the factory to complete the formalities, opening my mouth just to bite people. I just signed in the west, and I have to look for the stamp in the east." The difficulty of getting the certificate is vividly written.

If you don’t believe it, we can discuss it with the originator of doggerel:

The sky and the river are abstract, and there are dark holes in the well. Yellow dogs have white bodies, while white dogs have swollen bodies.

The author’s name is Zhang limerick, hence the origin of the limerick’s name. The poem is about snow. After reading it, anyone who has experienced heavy snowfall will definitely smile knowingly and praise its image.

After a little analysis of limericks, it is not difficult to find that when creating limericks, you don’t need to talk too much about meter, nor do you need any beautiful artistic conception, nor do you need to "recite a single word and twist several stems". Just a little rhyme. But it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t matter. At least it must be entertaining. Image and humor are its main characteristics. Otherwise, it cannot be called a limerick, but can only be called a “rhyming document” as Qian Zhongshu said, or a poem dressed in poetry. slogan. Because of this characteristic, limericks can be called a tool for diaosi to complain.

So, what do you think of writing a good limerick? The answer is: Do you still have to study hard to write limericks? Don't do it at all. It has the characteristics of being a diaosi. It is not elegant in poetry. It is suitable for self-deprecation, self-deprecation, and all kinds of complaints. As long as it rhymes a little and has a good grasp of the rhythm to ensure that it is catchy and catchy, everything will be fine. If we could achieve "laughing, anger and scolding all turned into articles" like Lu Xun's essays, wouldn't it be the top level? Do you still want to "make a statement" and even bring peace to everything with a few limericks?

But I think the subject of the question is a person with a little bit of literary and artistic feelings. At the end, he said, "I always feel unsatisfied when I read it again, but I can't tell what is unsatisfactory." Therefore, I asked how to write a good limerick.

To give an example, compare the original limerick earlier with Liu Zongyuan’s "Jiang Xue".

Thousands of birds have disappeared, and thousands of people have disappeared. A man with a coir raincoat in a lone boat, fishing alone in the snow in the cold river.

The same thing is written about snow, both of which have twenty characters. Why has the latter become an eternal masterpiece and been selected into various anthologies of Tang poetry and Chinese textbooks for primary school students?

The first is artistic conception. The harmonious artistic conception of the river, sky, snow and people gives people a deep sense of beauty. The poem "The Image of Jiang Tian" only has images but no artistic conception.

The second is personality spirit. All literature is a study of human nature, and the spirit of a fisherman fishing alone in the snow is what kind of life responsibility is this? Can't we think of Qu Yuan's "Everyone is drunk and I am alone awake"? Does the image of a lonely but majestic fisherman appear before our eyes? The poem "The Image of River and Sky" only sees snow. Apart from being surprised at how heavy the snow is, we cannot see the personality spirit behind the poem.

So, the same thing is written about snow, and the same is about twenty crosses, but in the latter we can discover more endless things. This is what the theorist Sikong Tu of the Tang Dynasty called "the purpose of something outside the taste." Therefore, it is not difficult to understand that the author always feels that his limericks are "unsatisfactory". If the author insists on how to write a limerick well, please let it go. It cannot carry so much connotation.

How to write classical poetry well? The topic is so big that I can't explain it in a few sentences, and I don't dare to tell you how to write it. If you ask an expert for advice, the answer will probably be nothing more than: learn more, read more, write more, and more importantly, accumulate emotions and experience. As Fang Weng said, "If you want to learn poetry, you have to work outside poetry."

However, given that the subject of the title has a humorous nature, I still venture to point out a way. Learn Nie Cangnu.

Nie Gannu was born into writing Lu Xun’s humorous and scolding essays. Later, he became a monk and started writing old-style poetry, but he still did not change his true character:

Do it when you reflect

< p>It has only been 50 years of falsehood, but who knows that there are hundreds of thousands of faults.

Stretch eight feet into the Lingguan Hall and shout loudly at the White Tiger Hall.

If the sky has its head chopped off, it will be frightened. Even if the earth has no bottom, it will be frightened.

Who has thousands of strands of green hair, not a night of frost in Zhaoguan.

Rubbing the straw rope

It takes a lot of effort to create an article, rub it forward and backward on your palms and knees.

A pair of two lovers linger together for a long time.

If you can tighten this straw rope, the motorcycle can be towed in the mud.

The end of the world pities the withered grass at this moment, is it comparable to Luo Qun?

Cambodian Zhoupo (Answer’s note: Nie’s wife)

Fetching water, tigers and woodcutter in the Longjiang River, carrying the burden of dragons and tigers.

Swallows fly over the beams together, and there are banana trees in the snow.

The strong wind carries the grass across the deserted path, and the drizzle pushes the bridge onto the small bridge.

Don’t laugh when you are old and romantic, good poems lie in the setting sun.

Female flight attendant

Wearing a long uniform with particularly long sleeves, she sells the new issue of Beidahuang.

The Chairman’s poems and songs are melodious, and the People’s Daily recited them sonorously.

There are three or two white words in his mouth, and a pair of yellow braids on his head.

The cheeks are red and broken by the cold, and the passengers in the carriage are bathing in spring sunshine.

In the modern environment, old-style poetry no longer has the climate to be carried forward by the Chinese people in the Tang and Song Dynasties, but it is also very gratifying to see that there are still many like-minded people who are passionate about classical poetry, and there are also some on the Internet There are many experts. Please go to the poetry forum and have a look. You must gain something.
