Original text:
Boxi Xi, the country of Xi. Bo was also the first king.
From the east of Bo, my head is like a flying canopy. No ointment? Who is suitable for it!
It's raining, it's raining and the sun is shining. I am willing to talk, I am willing to take the first disease.
How can I get grass? The back of the tree. I am willing to talk and think. It almost killed me.
Translation:
Bo, Bo, what a handsome man. He is the pioneer of the king, with a stick in his hand. My hair has been in a mess since my uncle left. It's not that I don't want to decorate my appearance with powder, but for whom? It's cloudy, won't it rain? But look at the sun in the west. The weather is bright and hot. I miss my uncle, and I am heartbroken. Where can I find a girl without sadness? I want to plant it under the north wall. I miss my uncle, which makes me homesick.
Background information of The Book of Songs in Bo Xi;
Bo Xi is an ancient poem in China, and its background is closely related to historical events. According to historical records, in 707 BC, King Huan of Zhou led the army of Wei, Cai and Chen to crusade against Zheng, in order to punish the breach of etiquette. This war, known as the Battle of Gege, was an important battle in the Spring and Autumn Period.
In the Battle of Gege, the soldiers of Weiguo were led by their monarch Wei, and Cai Guo and his army also took part in the battle. Although the allied forces led by King Huan of Zhou gained advantages in the early stage, they were finally defeated by Zheng's army. In the war, Zheng's archery hit his shoulder, which forced him to retreat and admit defeat.
Bo Xi was written under this historical background. The theme of this poem is yearning and hope, which expresses a woman's deep yearning for her husband who went abroad on an expedition. The poem describes a woman's praise and expectation for her husband and the loneliness and pain caused by her husband's absence.
With sincere feelings and simple language, the whole poem profoundly reflects the pain brought by the corvee in ancient society and the parting pain suffered by the family. It not only expresses people's aversion to war and their desire for peace, but also shows that ancient people cherish family and love.
