Wu Wei sent Judge Liu to march to Qixi

Cen Shen and Wu Wei sent Judge Liu to march to Qixi

There are few people traveling in the fifth month of the volcano, and the horses are as fast as birds.

The guards were encamping in Taibaixi, and Hu Tianxiao was heard by the sound of the trumpet.

Appreciation

In May of the tenth year of Tianbao (751), the prince of the Shi Kingdom in the northwest border led Dashi (ancient Arabian Empire) and other troops to attack the Tang Dynasty. At that time, Wuwei (now Wuwei, Gansu) ) Gao Xianzhi, the prefect and the governor of Anxi, sent out 300,000 troops to resist. This poem was written by the author before sending off his colleague Judge Liu (list) to the army in Wuwei. Qixi is the Anxi Protectorate. This is an impromptu and quite unique farewell poem.

The first sentence seems to come from Jingxin's mouth, indicating the season (May) and direction of Judge Liu's march. The volcano is the Flame Mountain in Turpan, Xinjiang, with an altitude of 400 to 500 meters. The rocks are mostly Tertiary sandstone, red in color and hot in climate. Especially in the midsummer of May, when the mountains are filled with clouds of fire that have not yet bloomed, and birds that have flown thousands of miles dare not come ("Farewell Song of the Volcano"). Birds don't dare to fly, no wonder there are fewer pedestrians. Therefore, this sentence also expresses the majestic power of the volcano. And that's where Judge Liu must pass when he goes to the army. When the journey is not written here, the suspense of the difficulty of traveling is first revealed. Ordinary people regard volcanoes as a fearful road, so readers are waiting to see what Judge Liu has to say.

Then he writes about Judge Liu’s extraordinary courage. Watching the king's horse move as fast as a bird makes readers feel like they are seeing this scene: the scorching sun, the yellow sand, and a flying horse passing by in the deserted wilderness and rushing towards the volcano. What an extraordinary skill that rider has! Using a bird to describe a horse not only expresses its speed, but also reflects its small size to reflect the majesty of the wilderness. It was a volcano that birds dared not come to after flying thousands of miles, but now such a brave bird that did not avoid the flames flew here, which is awe-inspiring. This vividly praises Judge Liu's indomitable spirit. The whole sentence starts with the word "kan", and the sound of praise can be heard.

The governor went to camp Taibaixi. At first glance, the third sentence just points out the destination of this trip, saying that the temporary camp is far to the west of Taibai Star - this is of course an extreme exaggeration. Writing this way makes it look very majestic and impressive. Savor it carefully, this is mainly because the two words Duhuxingying and Taibai can evoke a solemn and majestic feeling. They are related to the current military operations of the Gao Xianzhi Department of the Tang Army. Taibai, also known as Venus, the ancients believed that its appearance in certain circumstances foreshadowed the enemy's defeat (their failure to go west and defeat in foreign countries, see "Historical Records of Tianguan"). Understanding this, the meaning of the last sentence is self-evident.

Hu Tianxiao’s last sentence is truly a warning as soon as the trumpet sounds. Literally speaking, this is the author's remembrance of the morning in the military camp. Originally, the horn was blown when dawn arrived in the military camp, but in the innocent mind of this curious poet, it was the horn that woke Hu Tian up (just like the horn can wake up the soldiers). This is indeed comparable to the later Li He's strange sentence about the sound of the rooster and the world is white, showing the ambition of the Tang army's soldiers to circle the world. Connected with the foreshadowing of Taibai's appearance in the previous sentence, the implication of this sentence is far deeper than the literal meaning. It actually means: As long as the Tang army gives an order, it can win a decisive victory, sweep away the night air, and make the Western Region see light again. This sentence is not only a poem, but also contains metaphorical and symbolic meanings. Because of this, this farewell poem breaks away from the general category of personal friendship and sublimates to a higher ideological realm.

This poem does not fall into the trap of ordinary farewell poems. It does not directly express feelings of farewell or direct wishes for victory. The scenes here and there are only slightly exaggerated and imagined, the narrative is natural, the comparison is appropriate, and it can really enhance the demeanor of colleagues. The meaning of farewell and victory is also seen in the words, which is unique among farewell poems. . Send deputy envoy Li to the army in Qixi

The volcano should be hotter in June, and there will be no pedestrians at the Chiting crossing. Knowing that you are accustomed to Qilian City, how can you worry about seeing the moon on the platform? Take off your saddle and go into the restaurant for a while, and send you thousands of miles west to attack Hu.

He only takes fame from horses. He is truly a heroic husband.

Appreciation

This farewell poem does not describe a farewell feast of singing and dancing, nor does it describe the hard feelings when breaking up. The author only speaks and acts as a confidant, toasting and encouraging people to drink, but people can feel a passion rippling between the lines.

This is the sixth month of the tenth year of Tianbao (751). Deputy envoy Li (unknown name) will leave Wuwei and go to Qixi, the Anxi Protectorate (the seat of government is near today's Kuqa, Xinjiang). Therefore, the first two sentences of the poem point out the season and start with the most arduous journey of Huoshan and Chiting, which Deputy Envoy Li must pass through on his way out of the fortress. There are few people around the volcano in May, and poets have already chanted about it. How about the scorching heat in June? The author does not start with farewell jargon, but starts the sentence with volcano and red pavilion, which creates a special background and highlights Deputy Ambassador Li's heroic spirit of not fearing hardships and resolutely moving forward as ordered, and the meaning of farewell cherished along the way is also implicit in it. . The third and fourth sentences make a twist in the writing style, clearly describing Li's extraordinary experience and inspiring him to move forward: knowing that you often travel to the border areas, how can you see the moon in Luntai and arouse homesickness? How can we pretend to ask a rhetorical question here, implying that Deputy Envoy Li has been on the battlefield for a long time and has already put his homesickness behind him. How can I be sad to see the round moon reflects the positive and enterprising spirit of people in the prosperous Tang Dynasty, and is a high-spirited syllable in the sound of the prosperous Tang Dynasty. The fifth and sixth lines of the poem are in a tone of greeting and persuasion, urging Deputy Li to take off his saddle and stay for a while, and temporarily enter the restaurant to drink and say goodbye.

The author transcended the barriers of ordinary farewell poems that mostly express feelings of reluctance, and directly proposed the mission of this westward journey to attack the Hu, turning melancholy into boldness, and opened up a new artistic conception under the title of the farewell poem. The last two sentences of the poem express his heart directly, and are even more powerful: please seek fame and glory from the military battlefield, this is a real man. Xiang Xiang, his tone was respectful and firm. This can be seen as Cen Shen encouraging Li to become famous and create heroic deeds, but is it not his own ideals and ambitions? These two sentences push the poetry to a climax, and the heroic spirit has excited many readers in later generations.

This poem combines narrative, lyricism, and discussion, and breaks through the conventions of ordinary farewell poems. Its colloquial poetic language makes people feel friendly and free. The melodious and beautiful tone gives people an unrestrained and lively poetic feeling. The free and lively rhythm, the ups and downs of the rhythm, shows a heroic momentum and conveys the fire-like passion, which will undoubtedly give great inspiration to those who travel far.
