Good at: poetry, calligraphy, painting, music, etc. He was famous among Kaiyuan and Tianbao for his poetry, which is especially long in five words and mostly odes to landscapes and countryside. Together with Meng Haoran, he is known as "Wang Meng" and is known as the "Poetry Buddha".

Wang Wei's landscape poems had a profound impact on later generations of poetry, both in terms of the subject matter and content of the poems, and the artistic richness of the poems.
