The original text of Hu Shi's Up the Mountain

Up the hill-Hu Shi

"Work hard! Work hard! Try to run with your head up! "

I climbed up the mountain in desperation, without looking back or wiping my sweat.

"Mid-levels! Work hard! Try to run with your head up! "

There is no road up there. I am climbing ivy on the stone.

Step by step, I climbed up the mountain with my toes on the small trees in the cracks in the rocks.

"Be careful! Work hard! Try to run with your head up! "

The stump tore my shirt sleeve and the thorn stabbed my hand.

I managed to open a line and climb the hill.

This is a smooth road with beautiful wild flowers.

There are shady old trees.

But I'm tired,

Clothes are soaked with sweat and legs are soft.

I fell asleep under the tree and smelled the fragrance of grass.

I had a groggy sleep.

When I woke up, it was dark.

The road has been exhausted, and the cry of "hard work" has also been extinguished. ...

Save it! Save it! I'll sit until dawn,

Never run to the highest peak to see the wonders of sunrise early tomorrow morning.

Extended data

Hu Shi's Trial Collection, published in 1920, is the first new collection of poems in the history of modern literature in China. The free poem Up the Mountain was written in 19 19.

Up the Mountain portrays an image of a climber who "tries to run with his head up".

By describing the character of climbers, the author praised an enterprising and positive spirit.

This poem is written in popular and nearly popular vernacular; He also tried to break the shackles of the old-fashioned poetry meter, and was informal; Poems vary in length and rhyme relatively freely.

In the poem Up the Mountain, Hu Shi enthusiastically sang the spirit of "climbing" and the positive attitude of "trying to climb up", as well as the desire and ambition of never giving up until he reached the "peak".

Poetry shows an indomitable and enterprising spirit, which inspires people's persistent pursuit of truth and justice, defying difficulties and being brave in exploration.

Hu Shi tried to change the old poetic form into a new one. Although he also used the vernacular style in his poem Before Going Up the Mountain, he could not get rid of the shackles of the old style, and still had some words and flavors of classical Chinese.

The poem Up the Mountain is completely free from the shackles of the old poetic style, and it is a completely free-style pure white new poem.

It is Hu Shi's main contribution to China's poetry revolution to completely liberate vernacular poetry from old poetry.
