The ancient poem of weeping willow

1. "One of Two Poems from Liangzhou"

The author is Wang Zhihuan? Tang Dynasty

Far above the Yellow River, among the white clouds, there is an isolated city called Wanren Mountain.

Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows? The spring breeze does not pass through Yumen Pass.

Vernacular translation:

The Yellow River seems to be rushing from the white clouds, and Yumen Pass stands alone in the mountains.

Why should the soldiers complain that the willow trees have not sprouted? The spring breeze cannot blow outside Yumen Pass.

2. "Butterfly Loves Flowers·Spring Scene"

Author Su Shi? Song Dynasty

The flowers have faded to red, green and small apricots. When swallows fly, green water surrounds people. There are few willow trees blowing on the branches. There is no grass anywhere in the world.

The swing inside the wall and the road outside the wall. Pedestrians outside the wall, beautiful women smiling inside the wall. The laughter gradually disappeared and became quieter. Passionate but annoyed by ruthlessness.

Vernacular translation:

Spring is coming to an end, the flowers are withering, and green fruits have grown on the apricot trees. Swallows fly across the sky, and clear rivers surround village homes.

The catkins on the willow branches have been blown away less and less, but don’t worry, lush grass can be seen everywhere. Inside the wall, a girl is playing on a swing, which can be heard by passers-by outside the wall.

The girl let out a beautiful laugh, and slowly, the laughter inside the wall was no longer heard, as if her passionate self was hurt by the ruthless girl.

3. "Village Residence"

The author is Gao Ding? Dynasty Qing Dynasty

On the February day, the grass grows and the orioles fly, and the willows brush the embankments and are drunk by the spring smoke.

The children came back early from school and were busy flying kites in the east wind.

Vernacular translation:

In the second month of the lunar calendar, the green grass in and around the village has gradually sprouted and grown, and orioles are flying around. The willows are covered with long green branches, swaying in the wind, as if gently stroking the embankment.

The water vapor evaporating between the water and vegetation condenses like smoke. The willows seem to be intoxicated by this rich scenery. The children in the village hurried home after school and took advantage of the east wind to fly kites into the blue sky.

4. "Cold Food/Cold Food Day"

Author Han Hong? Dynasty Tang Dynasty

Flowers are flying everywhere in the Spring City, and the east wind of Cold Food keeps the willow trees from slanting.

At dusk, candles were passed around the Han Palace, and light smoke dispersed into the house of the Five Marquises.

Vernacular translation:

In late spring, catkins are flying and falling reds are everywhere in Chang'an City. The east wind during the Cold Food Festival blows the willow branches in the imperial garden.

As night fell, the palace was busy passing candles around, and the smoke from the cooking pots dispersed into the homes of princes and nobles.
