The above poem is one of Du Fu's masterpieces, Spring Hope. Many people are familiar with this well-known classic poem.
However, I am afraid that many people do not fully understand the historical background behind this poem and the environment in which Du Fu wrote it.
Today, we will talk about the hope of spring and the story behind it.
In the 14th year of Tianbao, an Shi Rebellion broke out in the Tang Dynasty. In just one year, the rebels captured Chang 'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty left the city with Yang Guifei and several imperial guards without informing anyone before leaving.
In Nuoda, Chang 'an, millions of people and senior officials of the royal family were captured by the rebels, who took control of Guanzhong.
At this time, Du Fu settled in Yinzhou (today's northern Shaanxi), and then set off for Lingwu and went to Tang Suzong. Unexpectedly, Du Fu was captured by rebels on the way.
Du Fu was taken to Chang 'an. Du Fu lived in Chang 'an for ten years, and when he saw his old capital, he couldn't help crying.
Chang 'an in the Tang Dynasty was originally one of the most prosperous cities in the world, with a population of one million, pavilions, markets, restaurants and transportation. Businessmen and scholars from all over the world gather here. Every festival, the Tang government held a grand celebration ceremony, and the whole city was jubilant.
Such a metropolis, after the Anshi Rebellion, was only devastated and depressed. After the Anshi Rebellion attacked Chang 'an, the soldiers looted for three days, burning and killing constantly, and the whole Chang 'an fell into a sea of fire.
Du Fu saw this Chang 'an City, so he lamented "the place where petals flow like tears".
At that time, another great poet, Wang Wei, was imprisoned with Du Fu. Because of his greater fame and official position than Du Fu, Wang Wei was taken care of by the rebels, and Du Fu was just a nobody at that time and was not taken seriously by the rebels.
Soon, Tang Suzong's Pingyi Army arrived in Chang 'an, and Du Fu fled Chang 'an by taking advantage of the guards' relaxed vigilance to meet Tang Jun.
At this time, Du Fu was filled with excitement when he saw "Julian Waghann". He wrote many articles to persuade Tang Suzong to be kind to the people, and made suggestions for Tang Jun's counterinsurgency.
At first, Tang Suzong promoted Du Fu, calling him "the left gleaning", but before long, Du Fu was left out in the cold by Tang Suzong for political reasons, and was benched, and was never reused.
Spring Hope is Du Fu's work during the An Shi Rebellion. At this time, the prosperous Tang Dynasty is gone forever, and the prosperous times that Du Fu was familiar with have become the past, replaced by wars and hunger everywhere.
Du Fu, who experienced all this, wrote this poem full of gratitude and resentment of his family and country, which became a swan song throughout the ages.
Du Fu may not be a good official, but he is definitely a top poet. Sometimes we think, at that time, perhaps because Du Fu was not good at being an official, they were able to create so many excellent works.
It doesn't matter whether there is a Du Fu among the hundred officials in the Tang Dynasty, but Du Fu is absolutely indispensable in the cultural history of China.
