Although there was some psychological preparation before, the news of Professor Feng Yadong's death still made people feel sudden and sad. The death of Professor Feng Yadong is a great loss to Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and its Law School, and it is also a great loss to the criminal law circle in China. The only consolation is that although he is gone, he is destined not to be forgotten. The name of Professor Feng Yadong and his tireless exploration in the field of criminal law are destined to be engraved on the monument of the rule of law.
Professor Feng Yadong was one of my seniors at first. He is a Grade 78 student of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and I am 8 1. There is a myth that Southwest University of Political Science and Law (Grade 78) cannot be copied. Including Zhou Qiang, President of the Supreme Court, Li Shaoping, Vice President, Long Zongzhi, Professor of Sichuan University, and many other leading figures in political and legal circles and academia, all of whom are graduates of the 78th session of Western Politics. Of course, including Professor Feng Yadong. Come to think of it carefully, it was an idealistic era. As soon as the country put order out of chaos, universities began to resume enrollment. Every young man is permeated with a feeling of home and country. In fact, before this, Feng Yadong had the experience of educated youth and workers. For Feng Yadong, born in 1953, he was 25 years old at that time, and everything was full of sense of mission and urgency.
After graduating from college, Feng Yadong first worked in Nanchong Intermediate People's Court, then passed through Sichuan University of Political Science and Law and Sichuan University, and finally came to Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in July 2002 until his death. For Southwestern University of Finance and Economics Law School, Professor Feng Yadong contributed a lot. Under the leadership of Professor Feng Yadong, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics' degree authorization point of criminal law has finally grown from scratch, from good to excellent. Especially 20 1 1, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Fudan University, Sichuan University, etc. Being awarded the first-class discipline of law, Professor Feng Yadong's own scientific research contribution has played a great role in boosting. Because of the application, I carefully sorted out six papers published by Professor Feng Yadong in three authoritative academic journals: China Social Sciences, Legal Studies and China Law during the five years from 20 to 0, 2005. At that time, this figure was second only to Professor Zhang Mingkai of Tsinghua University and Professor Chen Xingliang of Peking University. The heavy scientific research achievements have finally played a cornerstone role for the law school to win the first-class doctoral authorization in law.
Professor Feng Yadong's academic achievements are obvious to all. But he is actually a late bloomer.
During his stay in Nanchong Intermediate People's Court and Sichuan Institute of Political and Legal Cadre Management, he spent ten years writing the book Rationalism and Criminal Law Model. Later, the book was selected into the Young and Middle-aged Law Library and published by China University of Political Science and Law Press. The legal circles all know the great reputation behind this set of books of young and middle-aged law libraries in the 1990s. Its academic value and influence are indeed unmatched by other domestic law books. When this book was published, Feng Yadong was 45 years old. In other words, unlike other legal scholars who came to the fore in their thirties, Feng Yadong didn't reach the academic golden age until he was 45. In an increasingly utilitarian era, Professor Feng Yadong is willing to spend such a long time and devote himself to writing a book. This kind of love for learning and calmness in handling things is really worth learning from every young scholar.
In fact, it was not until he entered Sichuan University and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics that Professor Feng Yadong really entered the mainstream legal field. Unlike others, Professor Feng Yadong belongs to the Kuynist jurist. Singing a word and breaking a few whiskers will even remind me of a poet named Li He in the middle Tang Dynasty. Seeing her son's love for poetry to the extreme, Li He's mother felt that her son was "painstaking" in writing poetry. During the time when I was busy with legal practice and far away from the mainstream legal field, I just tempered the depth and sharpness of Professor Feng Yadong's thought. For Professor Feng Yadong's research, a true and widely circulated story is that in the process of writing, Professor Feng Yadong even went into a state of being possessed, and stayed up all night because of meditation at night. Accompanied by him, there is only one tape recorder. Worried that inspiration is fleeting, I will turn on the tape recorder as soon as I have an idea, and then sort out the records until dawn. In the end, not only can I not sleep well, but even my wife Long Zhexuan has to accompany me to insomnia. Therefore, a close reading of Professor Feng Yadong's related works will reveal that it is not only the inheritance of knowledge, but also the condensation of one's thoughts. Therefore, Professor Feng Yadong is not only a criminal law scholar, but also a thinker.
Buddhism wants a person to stay away from "greed and ignorance". Until now, I still think that Professor Feng Yadong's later illness has a lot to do with this excessive obsession with academics. Feng Yadong, like Li He, suffered from poor sleep for a long time, and his work and rest were completely disordered. His sense of smell is completely out of order, and everything he eats smells of paint. First, according to the treatment of depression, it was not until more than two years later that the patient was finally diagnosed with motor neuron disease, that is, "gradually frozen person", which is a terminal disease that medicine is still helpless at present.
The most touching thing is that Feng Yadong is most concerned about his students when his health is getting worse. In fact, teaching and learning are the favorites of Professor Feng Yadong's life. Even when he was ill, he still insisted on giving lessons to students and guiding his disciples to finish their papers. In order to take care of the teacher, the students brought a chair to Professor Feng Yadong, hoping that the teacher could sit and talk, but he couldn't help standing up when he spoke ... In addition to his normal teaching work, Professor Feng Yadong called Feng Men's disciples for academic exchanges almost every week. This kind of communication is often in his home. It's time for dinner. Before his wife gets off work, Professor Feng Yadong starts to roll up his sleeves and cook noodles and jiaozi for the students. For disciples with family difficulties, Feng Yadong is even more caring, either directly giving financial help or introducing part-time jobs. So that the students of the whole college are feeling that it is happy to be a disciple of Fengmen. "Teacher Feng really dotes on his disciples!"
As a well-known criminal jurist in China, Professor Feng Yadong has many opportunities for fame and fortune. On one occasion, a client found Professor Feng Yadong, hoping that he could come forward to represent a criminal case in a certain place in Sichuan. "You don't need to do too much concrete practice. Just show up and you can get more than one million." Professor Feng Yadong declined on the spot for fear that the case would affect academic research.
What impressed me deeply was that one morning a few years ago, Professor Feng Yadong suddenly appeared in front of me. His eyes were bloodshot and his hair was unkempt. Obviously, he didn't sleep well all night. He should have experienced some ideological struggles. Professor Feng Yadong told me that he was warmly invited by a famous university in the north. He only needs to type the name of this school on the research results in the future, and at the same time symbolically give lectures several times, and he can get hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. I have to say, as the dean of the school law school, I was still a little selfish. I asked him, "Will this distraction affect my students?" Since then, Feng Yadong has never said a word about it.
Some people describe Professor Feng Yadong as "modest and gentle as jade". Judging from my years of contacts with him, this description is appropriate. Now that he is gone, I just want to say that as a scholar, he is worthy of this era. As a teacher, he is worthy of every student!
Professor Feng Yadong is eternal!
