When I wrote Crane Stop, I had already started writing my new novel The King of Shanghai. When I wrote a long story, I should have been disowned by my six relatives. But I also need a rest, so I wrote Crane Stop first. This novella is centered on Shanghai in the period of Wang Puppet Manchuria, but it is about life and death and love between men. Most of the short stories included in this collection were written between my three years of writing long stories. When the editor of the magazine urged me, I stopped writing novels and short stories, which was considered as floating to the surface to catch my breath.
Someone once asked me why I was interested in China's notebook novels in recent years. Readers will naturally understand my intention after reading this collection.
I walked around. When I was a girl, I liked reading China's classical novels. When I first started writing poetry, I read many western novels and poems and plunged into them.
