Appreciation of "Elegy" by Yuefu

Elegy Song

Elegy songs can be used as weeping, and distant views can be used as homecomings.

I miss my hometown and feel depressed.

I want to go home but there is no one, I want to cross the river but there is no boat.

My mind is speechless, and the wheels are spinning in my intestines.

The extremely straightforward and simple ancient poetry can still be read without any explanation even today, two thousand years later. There are eight sentences in the poem. Except for the second sentence "depressed and tired" which uses two overlapping adjectives to describe it and the last sentence "the wheels turning in the intestines" which uses metaphors and has a literary flavor, the other six sentences are as plain as speaking to the opposite person. . However, among the countless poems that express homesickness, one of the most common eternal themes, there are so many elegant and artistic famous poems that are either detailed and descriptive, or have twists and turns and touching details, but I still feel that this one stands out to me. The deepest touching thing; precisely because of this straightforwardness and simplicity.

"Elegies can be used as tears, and distant views can be used as homecomings." The first two sentences make people feel like crying. To sing without crying when you are sad is not to be open-minded, but to be helpless and to take pleasure in suffering; but taking pleasure in suffering cannot cover up the pain, so the song can only be a tragic song. Wang Changling has a famous saying, "The pipa dances to a new sound, and the old feelings are always separated from the mountains." It is the same joy in suffering, the same uncontrollable sadness, but it is much more subtle and euphemistic. However, if one can only consider such a mood carefully and consider it carefully, although it may show the wonderfulness of conception and tailoring, it will inevitably undermine the feeling of reading the poet. "Looking from afar, you can see home." In fact, hometown is invisible. But you still have to look; because the farther you look, the closer the scenery you see is to your hometown. It seems that your body and mind are closer to your hometown, right? Just like this - and only like this - I forced myself to feel relieved.

"Missing my hometown", this sentence is so clear that it cannot be more clear. It seems that some people say that poetry cannot be so straightforward, it must embody feelings in scenery and things; not to mention that "Looking from afar can bring you home" already expresses the meaning of homesickness very clearly. However, this more clear confession does not make people feel repetitive, but it feels that only by saying it repeatedly and clearly can the feeling of longing be expressed thoroughly.

"There is no one to go home, and there is no boat to cross the river." If you are holding back your tears because of the pain ahead, then these two sentences are enough to make you want to cry without tears. There are always things that touch our hearts, just like the saying "No one wants to go home". The person he thought about day and night, the person who always looked forward to his return in the home where he never wanted to return, was no longer there. What’s the point of all the thinking, all the hope, all the hope? What’s the point of returning, which you have been praying for as a goal? What kind of pain and helplessness is this! But I still can’t stop thinking about my hometown, I still can’t change my desire to return home, and I still have to continue looking in the direction of my hometown. How affectionate and persistent is this! In "Old Gun", the hero whose wife died at the hands of the Germans concealed the whereabouts of the Germans from his wife's lover, who was a guerrilla captain; he wanted to use that old gun to take revenge, and he wanted her to see who was the real one. The person she can rely on the most. But it was impossible for her to see it. But he still had to do it, risking his life. It's the same pain and helplessness, and the same deep affection and persistence. Human beings' basic emotions and ways of thinking are inherently connected across time and space.

"My thoughts cannot be expressed, but the wheels in my intestines are spinning." Since there is no one in my hometown, and of course there is no one in a foreign land alone, how can I express my thoughts? To whom can I speak? I want to cry but have no tears, I want to complain but have no words. At this point, there is no need to say it anymore, and it is impossible to say it anymore; because no words can fully express the pain in my heart.

This kind of longing, this kind of pain, this kind of helplessness still strikes the hearts of many people today. It's just that modern urbanites living in the reinforced concrete jungle no longer have the opportunity to "see from afar"; unless they stand on the top of the tallest building in the city - but this will almost certainly trigger a police and police incident. The firefighters participated in the thrilling incident and sent themselves to the local daily and evening newspapers the next day. It is unlikely that many people would try it just to see their hometown. Fortunately, we still have this poem; reading it, it seems that like the poet, I have climbed to a high place and looked towards my hometown. Those unforgettable people, unforgettable objects, and unforgettable scenes are reflected in my imagination. Appear before our eyes one by one. Perhaps today, when we are unable to suppress our homesickness and suffer from unbearable pain, we can say: "Reading "Elegy" can help you feel at home.
