Xishuangbanna, Yunnan was once called "the country on the back of an elephant". Why?

Accurately speaking, it is actually a country with this title, which is more than 1000 years ago and is also called "Jinglong Jin Dianguo". The original website of this country is in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna today.

According to historical records, there were about 8 million people in Meng Ling countries at that time, and there were more than 9,000 elephants used as war elephants. Because elephants are huge, docile and highly intelligent, they can be responsible for transporting some heavy goods after simple training, and elephants trained by the army can exist as giant tanks on the battlefield with their huge size and weight. There are more elephants used in daily life in almost every village. Therefore, it is also called "the country on the back of an elephant".

In A.D. 1 180, the ruler of Dali chose to set out from Dali, and then led the Dai army and people to trek all the way down the Lancang River to Jinghong City. This Paya is really a wise monarch. Under his rule, the country's population grew rapidly and its national strength gradually became stronger. And the territory of the whole small country has gradually expanded into a huge Southeast Asian power. However, compared with the Song Dynasty, which has a vast territory and strong national strength, and Dali Kingdom, which is close at hand, this country is still very weak, so the wisdom of the leaders is almost used in how to survive between the two great powers, which is quite difficult.

Later, Meng Lingguo, which was established by Paya Town in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna, still stood up even after the regime change of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. This small country with little ambition lives a small life on the back of an elephant with peace of mind.
