Because the readers of Hebrews are Jewish Christians. The problems they face are false teachers' teaching, doubts about Jesus' identity, wavering of faith and even returning to Judaism. At the beginning of the letter, the author of Hebrews made it clear to Jewish Christians that the nature of Jesus was clear again. We can also use this chapter to see if we know who we trust.
The essence of Jesus: He is God.
He is the glory of God's glory and the truth of God's noumenon, and often holds up everything with his omnipotent command. (Greek 1: 3)
Identity of Jesus: He is the son of God, the creator and ruler of all things.
It was at this last time that he spoke to us through his son and made him the inheritor of all things; He also created the world through him. (Greek 1: 2)
Jesus' position: He is God's eldest son, ranking above angels, which is God's destiny.
Jews attach great importance to the birthright of the eldest son, because the eldest son has the highest status and responsibility in the Jewish family. In addition, God has absolute sovereignty over the fate and talent of the eldest son. For example, although Jacob was the second child, God decided that "the older one should serve the younger one in the future". (Gen 25: 23) Jacob became the firstborn.
And Jesus is the eldest son appointed by God, and God appointed Jesus above all things.
Of all the angels, to which one did God say, "You are my son, and I gave birth to you today"? Which one do you point to and say "I want to be his father and he wants to be my son"? Besides, when God brought his eldest son into the world, he said, "All the angels of God should worship him." (Greek 1: 5-6)
The attributes of Jesus are eternal, unchangeable and endless.
In order to keep up with the times and not be abandoned by the times, modern people who are brave in struggle respond to this ever-changing science and technology and information society with the philosophy of "the only constant is change". God still gave us a choice. Do we choose to pursue illusory changes and die, or do we pursue eternal changes and * * * go to eternity?
Heaven and earth will perish, but you will live forever; Heaven and earth will grow old like clothes. You should roll them up like a coat, and they will all change. Only you will never change, and your years are endless. (Greek1:11-12) Thank God for his grace!
Psalm 150
We should praise God. Praising God requires us to see, know and understand the beauty, wonder and awe of God. Thank god!
Touching scripture:
Heaven and earth will perish, but you will live forever; Heaven and earth will grow old like clothes. You should roll them up like a coat, and they will all change. Only you will never change, and your years are endless. (Greek1:11-12)
Praise god! Praise God in his sanctuary, praise him in the firmament of his power. (Psalm 150: 1)
