Original text:

Flowers are flying everywhere in the spring city, and the east wind and the willow trees are leaning against the cold food. At dusk, candles were passed around the Han Palace, and light smoke dispersed into the house of the Five Marquises.

Translation:

There is no place in Chang'an in spring where falling flowers are not flying. On the day of the Cold Food Festival, the east wind blew the willows in the palace. Fires were supposed to be banned during the Cold Food Festival, but at dusk, candles were given to the palace to light the fire, and the light smoke of the candles drifted into the house of the recent minister.

The author Han Hong, courtesy name Junping, was born in Nanyang (now part of Henan). In the thirteenth year of Tianbao (754), he passed the imperial examination. Baoyingzhong served in the shogunate of Hou Xiyi, the Jiedushi envoy of Ziqing. Later, he returned to the court with Hou Xiyi and lived in Chang'an for ten years. In the late Dali period, he successively entered the Bian, Song and Xuanwu shogunate offices to work. In the early days of Jianzhong, Emperor Dezong appreciated his poem "Han Shi" and was appointed as a doctor in the Ministry of Transportation.

He is one of the "Ten Talents of Dali". Most of his poems are farewell poems. He is good at describing the scenery of people's journeys. They are evocative and rhythmic, but they lack emotion and depth. The brushwork is light and the scenery is unique. It was widely read at that time. The Ming Dynasty had "Han Junping Collection". "Complete Poems of the Tang Dynasty" contains three volumes of his poems.

Appreciation:

Hanshi is a traditional festival in ancient my country. It is held two days before the Qingming Festival. It depends. The ancients attached great importance to this festival. According to customs, every family prohibited fire and only ate ready-made food, so it was called cold food. Since the festival falls in late spring and the scenery is pleasant, from the Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty, Hanshi has become a good day for travel.

On the day of the Cold Food Festival, Han Hong roamed the streets of Chang'an and was fascinated by the late spring scenery in front of him until dusk fell. At night, the palace was bright with candlelight. But outside the palace it was pitch black, buried in the deep twilight. Han Hong was deeply moved, thinking of Concubine Yang and her brother relying on the emperor's favor to dominate and write "Cold Food".

This poem describes the warm spring atmosphere in the capital during the Cold Food Festival, and satirizes the emperor's favor. The whole poem is implicit, natural and full of emotion.
