the metaphysical poets
Metaphysical poets refer to English poets headed by john donne in the17th century, including Herbert, Marville, Crashaw, henry king, Cleveland, Taylor Horn, Vaughan, Cowley, Kelly and lovelace. Some of these poets, such as Cleveland, Kelly and lovelace, also belong to the "Chivalry School" in style and content. They are not an organized literary group, but have similarities in poetic style. Dryden was an English poet and critic in the17th century. He first used the term "metaphysics". He pointed out that Donne's poets were too pedantic.
