Zhang Xianliang began literary creation as early as the 1950s when he was in middle school. In 1955, he came to Ningxia as a cultural teacher. In 1957, during the "Anti-Rightist Movement", he was labeled as a "rightist" because he published the poem "Song of the Wind" in the magazine "Yanhe" and was sentenced to more than 20 years of labor reform at Xihu Farm in Helan County and Nanliang Farm on the outskirts of Yinchuan. At the end of 1979, he was rehabilitated and his reputation was restored, and he resumed writing. He later became one of the important contemporary Chinese writers since the "New Era" after the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. His representative works include: the novella "Spirit and Flesh", "Old Man Xing and the Dog and the Story", "Shor Brak", "First Kiss", etc.; the novella "Children of the River", "Dragon Seed", "Love Stories in the Dungeon" ", "Can't Wake Up", "Good Morning Friends", "Romantic Black Cannon", "Green Tree", etc.; novels "Men's Style", "Half of Men Are Women", "Habitual to Death", "My "The Bodhi Tree", and the long literary political essay "Novel China". Nowadays, Zhenbeibao Western Cinema, a subsidiary of China Western Film and Television City Company, has become an important cultural landscape and tourist attraction in Ningxia, and is known as "one of the best in China". The success of the Western China Film and Television City proves the importance of giving full play to human wisdom and management in a market economy society, and provides an idea for the economic development of the relatively lagging northwest region.
