Wei Yingwu was a poet of the landscape pastoral school of the Tang Dynasty, known as "Wei Suzhou" in the world. Wei Yingwu was born in the Jingzhao Wei family. At the age of 15, he entered and exited the palace as a valet of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.
When the Anshi Rebellion broke out, Tang Xuanzong fled westward, and Wei Yingwu lost his official position, so he entered Taixue to study.
During the reigns of Tang Daizong and Tang Dezong, Wei Yingwu served successively as Luoyang Prime Minister, Bibu Yuanwailang, and Suzhou Governor. During this period, Wei Yingwu served as a local official and was diligent in his official duties, simplifying administration and caring for the people. When Wei Yingwu's term as governor of Suzhou expired, he was impoverished and lived in Wuding Temple in Suzhou.
In 792 AD, Wei Yingwu died in a foreign country at the age of 55. Wei Shi has 549 existing poems, among which the five-character ancient poetry has the highest achievement. Wei Yingwu was born in Jingzhao. The main branch of the Wei family has moved into Guanzhong since the Western Han Dynasty and settled in Jingzhao. From the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, there were many figures in the dynasties, and they were the most famous surnames in Guanzhong. Not only were noble officials emerging in large numbers, but there were also talents in literature. "Old Book of Tang" talks about the Wei family: "Some commentators say that since the Tang Dynasty, the prosperity of the clan has not exceeded that of the Wei family. His filial piety and poetry learning, Chengqing and Sili's strength; his understanding of music and rhythm, Wanli is the best "When it comes to etiquette, Shu Xia is the best; when it comes to historical talent and knowledge, Shu is the best." These people surnamed Wei are only mentioned before the middle and prosperous Tang Dynasty. Wei Yingwu, who lived in the early Zhongyong period, can be said to be the most accomplished poet in the Wei family.
From the age of 15, Wei Yingwu took Sanweilang as Xuanzong's personal attendant, going in and out of the palace and traveling with his retinue. In his early years, he was unruly and unruly, running rampant in the countryside, causing hardship to the villagers. When the Anshi Rebellion broke out, Xuanzong fled to Shu and became homeless and neglected his duties. He became determined to study, ate little and often "burned incense and swept the floor while sitting". From Daizong Guangde to Dezong Zhenyuan, he successively served as Luoyang Cheng, Jingzhao Prefecture Gongcao joined the army, E County Magistrate, Bibu Yuanwai Lang, Chuzhou and Jiangzhou Governor, Zuosi Langzhong, and Suzhou Governor. He retired in the seventh year of Zhenyuan. It is known as Wei Jiangzhou, Wei Zuosi or Wei Suzhou in the world.
From the second year of Guangde of Suzong (764) to the seventh year of Zhenyuan of Dezong (791), for nearly thirty years, Wei Yingwu spent most of his time as a local official, including a short period in Chang'an. He may live idle in his hometown, or serve as an official in Chang'an. When he was a local official, Wei Yingwu was diligent in his official duties, kept simple administration and loved the people. He always blamed himself for not fulfilling his duties and wasting his salary in vain. "I miss the fields when I am sick, and I am ashamed of my salary when I am in exile." This is a couplet written by Wei Yingwu to a friend when he was the governor of Suzhou in his later years. A group of benevolent people cared about the people and moved future generations of readers. Shen Deqian commented: "It means living up to your heart's words." "Living up to your heart's words" means words with a conscience.
After the expiration of the Suzhou governorship, Wei Yingwu did not get a new appointment. He was so poor that he had no Sichuan capital to return to Beijing as a candidate (waiting for the imperial court to appoint him to another position). He lived in Wuding Temple in Suzhou, and soon died in a foreign country. His age was approximately fifty-six.
Wei Yingwu was a poet of the landscape pastoral school, and later generations often referred to him as Wang, Meng, Wei and Liu. His landscape poems are beautiful in scenery, profound in feeling, fresh, natural and full of business. The magnificent scenery of "Xisei Mountain" shows Wei Shi's majestic side. Wei's poems are all unique in style, and the seven-character poems have beautiful tones. "In addition to their talents, they are also quite modern and satirical" (Bai Juyi's "Nine Books of the Yuan Dynasty"). The five rhythms flow together, and the emotions and texts are intertwined, which is thought-provoking. 5. Qijue has a clear and beautiful rhyme. The sentence "The spring tide brings rain in the evening and rushes in late, and there is no boat on the wild crossing" in "Chuzhou West Stream" describes the scenery like a painting and was praised by later generations. Wei Shi has the highest achievement in the Five Ancients, with a style that dilutes leisurely and simple language, and is known as the "Five-Word Great Wall". But it also has a beautiful and elegant side. In the Five Ancients, he mainly studied Tao Yuanming, but in terms of landscape painting and other aspects, he was influenced by Xie Lingyun and Xie Tiao. In addition, he occasionally composed short poems. Today there are 10 volumes of "Wei Jiangzhou Collection", two volumes of "Wei Suzhou Collection of Poems", and 10 volumes of "Wei Suzhou Collection". Only one essay survives. Because he served as the governor of Suzhou. It is known as "Wei Suzhou" in the world. His poetic style is calm and lofty, and he is famous for his ability to describe scenery and reclusive life.
