Huining County is located in central Gansu, bordering Jingyuan County to the north, Tongwei County to the south, Dingxi and Yuzhong Counties to the west, Jingning County and Ningxia’s Xiji and Haiyuan Counties to the east. It is an important place for military strategists. Huining Ancient City has four gates, namely "Dongsheng Gate" in the east, "Xilü Gate" in the west, "Tongning Gate" in the south and "Jingjing Gate" in the north. The city is shaped like a phoenix spreading its wings, so it is called "Phoenix City".
In Huining County. The walls of the old Huining City are no longer complete, and now only the west gate (Xijin Gate) and the north and south city walls of 47 meters each remain. Xijin Gate is built on the base of the city gate and has two floors of towers. It was built in the Qing Dynasty. In the early morning of October 8, 1936, the main forces of the First, Second, and Fourth Front armies of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army successfully joined forces here. The Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army's 25,000-mile long march came to a successful end. Huining Tower is therefore called the Reunion Tower.
