His original name was Aristokles, but later he was renamed Plato because of his strong body and broad forehead (in Greek, Platus means "flat and broad"). Ranked fourth in the family. Plato was nicknamed by his PE teacher.
He was born in Athens, and after his parents were noble families, he received a complete education from an early age. He loved literature in his early years, wrote poems and tragedies, and was interested in politics. After associating with Socrates around the age of 20, I became fascinated with philosophical research. In 399 BC, Socrates was tried and sentenced to death, which made him completely disappointed with the existing regime, so he left Athens and traveled to Egypt, Sicily and other places for more than ten years.
In 387 BC, Plato returned to Athens and established his own school-Academie (or Academie) near a garden and sports ground in the northwest corner of the city to commemorate the Greek hero Akkadem. The name of the college is related to the address of the college, and the location of the college is related to the legendary Greek Heroes College, hence the name. This is the earliest institution of higher learning in the West, hence the name of the later Academy, which is the predecessor of the universities developed in the Middle Ages in the West. The college existed for more than 900 years until it was closed by Justinian the Great in 529 AD. The college is greatly influenced by Pythagoras, and its curriculum is similar to the traditional topics of Pythagoras school, including arithmetic, geometry, astronomy and acoustics.
In 367 BC, Plato traveled again. At this time, the college has been established for more than 20 years. He went to Sicily twice in an attempt to realize his political ambitions and put his ideas into practice, but both were forced into exile. In 360 BC, he returned to Athens and continued to give lectures and write in the college. Until 347 BC, Plato died at the age of 80.
Plato
Plato (427-347 BC) is the most famous idealist philosopher and thinker in ancient Greece, and the first person to systematize idealist philosophy in the history of western philosophy. His works and thoughts have a very important influence on later generations.
Plato came from an big noble family in Athens. It is said that his name originated from his broad forehead, but his real name was gradually forgotten. Plato was born during the Peloponnesian War. When he was young, he was as well educated as other aristocratic children and was exposed to all kinds of ideas at that time.
Socrates had the greatest influence on Plato's life. Plato took Socrates as his teacher at the age of 20 and studied with him for 10 years until Socrates was executed by the Athenian Democrats. The death of the teacher was a heavy blow to Plato. Like his own teacher, he opposes democratic politics and thinks that a person should do what is consistent with his status, farmers should only farm, craftsmen should only work, businessmen should only do business, and civilians should not participate in state affairs. Socrates' death deepened his prejudice against the civilian regime. He said that if we want to make a pair of shoes, we need to find a skilled person. If we are sick, we need to find a good doctor. Isn't it absurd to bid for such an important event as governing the country to anyone?
Plato didn't want to stay in Athens after his teacher died. From the age of 28 to 40, he has been roaming overseas and has been to Egypt, Italy, Sicily and other places. He has been investigating and propagating his political views. In 388 BC, he went to the ancient city of Silla in Sicily, trying to persuade the rulers to establish an ideal country managed by philosophers, but his goal was not realized. Unfortunately, he was sold as a slave on his way back, and his friends spent a lot of money to redeem him.
After Plato arrived in Athens, he opened a college. While teaching and writing, there is a sign hanging at the entrance of his academy: "Those who don't know geometry are not allowed to enter". It can be seen that without the knowledge of geometry, Plato's philosophy hall can't be reached. This college became an important philosophical research institution in ancient Greece, offering four courses: mathematics, astronomy, music and philosophy. Plato asked students to live not in the real world, but in the conceptual world formed by the mind. He vividly said: "The triangle painted on the sand can be erased, but the concept of triangle is not limited by time and space." Plato knew the truth of applying what he had learned, and trained politicians in all aspects according to his political philosophy in his academy. His academy is also vividly called "political training class".
In the later days, Plato went to Sicily twice. Once, I was invited to Syracuse to be the teacher of the newly enthroned Dionysus II. After Plato arrived in Syracuse, the floor of Syracuse court was covered with gravel, and people were keen to study geometry on it. But Plato soon went home disappointed. Later, Dionysus II invited him to Syracuse, and the result was disappointing.
Plato left many works, most of which were written in the form of dialogues, and later generations often quoted Pleadings, Manu, Republic, Wise Man and Law. The Republic is one of the representative works.
Platonic love has the following meanings:
1.
2. Pure spiritual love, not physical love.
3. Ideal love view, that is, extremely romantic or impossible love view.
There is only one person in this world. She (he) is perfect for you, and only for you. In other words, everyone has his perfect partner, and there is only one.
People tend to focus only on 2 and 3. In fact, 1 and 4 are the positive solutions of true platonic love. Plato believes that people are in the most real world of ideas before and after death. There, everyone is a complete man and woman, but in this world, we are all divided into two. So people always feel that if they lose something, they are trying to find their "other half". Plato also used this to explain why people have "relationships". In his theory, no half is more important, so men and women are equal. And your original half in the conceptual world is your perfect object. He/she is somewhere in the world and looking for her/him.
There is no other meaning in saying this. I believe in love, and I also realize how powerful this spiritual love is. My love is really a bit like Plato. I believe I am looking for her, but is she my other half? Maybe there will be an answer soon. Everyone wants romantic love. As long as I find her, I am willing to melt her in the romantic ocean ~ ~ ~
Platonism
Plato asked his teacher Socrates: What is love?
So Plato's teacher Socrates took him to the wheat field. Tell Plato to choose the biggest and best ear of wheat from among them, but he can only choose one and can't look back!
Plato thought it was too simple. When he came to the teacher empty-handed, the teacher was surprised to ask him why he came back empty-handed. So Plato told the reason why he returned empty-handed: when he went to the wheat field,
Seeing a seemingly good ear of wheat, I wanted to pick it at first, but then I thought about it: the teacher only allowed me to pick it once, maybe there will be better ones behind! Walking like this, I unconsciously came to the end of the wheat ear field, only to find that I didn't pick a wheat ear in my hand!
So Socrates smiled and said to Plato: This is love! !
I also think love in real life is very similar to this story. What do you think is the definition of love?
Platonic love, also known as Platonic love, is a kind of spiritual love between the opposite sex named after Plato, a western philosopher, who pursues spiritual communication and rejects sensuality. It was first put forward by Marsilio Ficino in15th century. As a synonym of Socrates' love, it is used to refer to the love relationship between Socrates and students.
Plato believes that when the mind abandons the body and yearns for the truth, then thought is the best. When the soul is infected by the sins of the body, people's desire for truth will not be satisfied. When human beings have no strong demand for sensuality, their mood is peaceful. Carnal desire is the expression of animal nature in human nature, and it is also the nature of every creature. People are so-called higher animals because human nature is stronger than animal nature, and spiritual communication is beautiful and moral.
Platonic love has the following meanings:
1. Ideal view of love (metaphor for extremely romantic or impossible view of love)
2. Pure spiritual love, not physical love
3. Love concept of equality between men and women
There is only one person in this world. For you (you), she (he) is perfect and only for you (you). In other words, everyone has his perfect partner, and there is only one.
The first meaning is the most commonly used, but it is actually a misunderstanding. But since everyone uses it this way, it's another meaning. This misunderstanding comes from Plato's masterpiece The Republic. This book discusses how to build an ideal country, because it may be too idealistic to be realized, so some people use it to explain what Platonic love is.
The second meaning is often used, but it is basically a misunderstanding. This misunderstanding comes from Plato's metaphysics. He thinks that what we think is true, and the "real world" we see is not true.
The third and fourth meanings are really Plato's view of love or gender.
Plato believes that people are in the most real conceptual world before and after death, where everyone is a complete man and woman, and in this world we are all divided into two. So people always feel that if they lose something, they will try to find their own "other half" (this word also comes from Plato's theory). Plato also used this to explain why people have "relationships".
In his theory, no half is more important, so men and women are equal. Moreover, the original half of you (you) in the conceptual world is the perfect object of you (you). He/she is somewhere in the world looking for you/you.
I don't know if this kind of love really exists now, is it really unrealistic or really only exists in fairy tales.
Platonic love
Stand by your lover;
Pay silently and wait silently;
Don't expect to be close, and don't pray for possession;
Even though I knew it wouldn't work out at all,
But still stubborn, that's why you don't expect anything in return.
Destined its tragic ending;
finally
Can only be parallel lines waiting in the distance;
Leaving only beautiful fragments in memory,
As eternity! !
The core of Plato's philosophy is idealism. In his view, the only real world is the eternal conceptual world, and the real world people feel is only a reflection of the conceptual world. Plato called things and general things beyond independence and people's understanding ideas, and thought that only ideas were true, because they constituted an objective and independent world of ideas, such as goodness itself, beauty itself and justice itself. Later, people called the pursuit of pure spirit "Platonic behavior"
Platonic love is just one of Platonic behaviors, and there are many others. You can't just think about love!
