What does the death squad represent to the fireflies in Watanabe in Norwegian Forest?

I think there may be hope. The death squads and fireflies are both from the short story "Fireflies" written by Murakami. You can go and have a look. Murakami's novels have a lingering sense of nothingness, and the light of fireflies brightens the night sky. It's not exact to say nothing, but it's really slim. After all, it is the shimmer of fireflies, which is fleeting. So my understanding is as above, maybe it exists, if it does, if it doesn't.
