How Do I Love Thee?

- Poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of every day's

Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love with a passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints, -- I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life! -- and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

How do I love you?

Changfeng translation

How do I love you? Please let me sort them out one by one.

I love you to the depths, breadth and heights I love you to,

as my soul goes through in search of the mystery of life

and the immaculate grace ;

I love you as a person to meet the needs of daily life,

from sunrise in the morning to lighting candles at night;

I love you freely as a human being Fight for your natural rights;

I love you purely like a devout worshipper;

I use the passion that bursts out of the sorrow of the past

and the innocence of childhood I love you with innocent confidence;

I love you with the love that I have now disappeared without a trace

but I once worshiped the ancient sages and sages;

< p>I love you with my breath, smiles and tears all my life;

God has destined that I will love you even more after I die!
