The poet only described the scenery of Wangfu Stone and his momentary feelings. He wrote it plainly, as if he could just pick it up without any effort, but it is full of love and water, giving people endless charm. . Let’s take a look together.
Wangfu Stone
Wang Jian
The place where Wangfu looks is the long river.
Turn into stone and never look back.
It is windy and rainy day after day on the top of the mountain.
Stone responds to the words when travelers return.
Appreciation of Wang Jian's Poems
According to legend, there was a woman in ancient times. Because her husband traveled far away from home and would not return for a long time, she went up the mountain every day to look into the distance, looking forward to her husband's return. But many years passed and her husband never came back, so the woman turned into stone on the top of the mountain. The image of the stone is like a woman looking up into the distance, so people call the stone Wangfu Stone and the mountain Wangfu Mountain. This story originated near today's Wuchang, Hubei Province. Due to its wide spread, there are Wangfu Mountain, Wangfu Stone and Wangfu Terrace in many places. In our country's classical poetry, there are many works based on this folk legend, and the same is true for Wang Jian's "Wangfu Stone".
The first four sentences and twelve characters paint a moving picture of Wang Fu Shi.
There is a vast and endless river here. On the bank of the river stands Wangfu Mountain, and on the top of the mountain stands a huge stone that looks like a woman looking up into the distance. The mountains stand silently; the water keeps flowing. Mountains, water, and rocks, with movement and stillness, complement each other and have vivid images. It is worth noting that this description contains rich ideological content and the poet's deep affection. "The place where you look at your husband, the river is leisurely" describes the environment and atmosphere of Wangfu Stone. The word "Youyou" depicts the image of a river flowing through the ages, which not only explains the background of the story, but also exaggerates the rich lyrical atmosphere. After reading this, we will naturally think of Bai Juyi's famous line in "Long Love":
"I miss you for a long time, hate you for a long time, and my hatred will not stop until I return." This endless feeling is the same as the endless feeling. Aren't the rivers in the river very similar? "Youyou" here not only describes the scenery, exaggerates the environment and atmosphere, but also describes the people, vividly depicting the state of missing a woman. These two sentences blend with each other and are full of imagery and artistic appeal.
"Turn into stone and never look back." These two sentences use personification to specifically describe the image of Wangfu Stone. People have become materialized and turned into stones; stones are also spiritual, and they can make people's wishes come true. People and things are harmonious, and emotions and scenery are harmonious. This not only vividly depicts the vivid image of the Wangfu Stone, but also vividly depicts the long-lasting presence of the beloved woman, the deep longing for her, and her unswerving loyalty to love. These two sentences closely follow the above and are a vivid artistic summary of the ancient and beautiful folklore. They do not use much ink, but they have achieved a moving artistic effect.
Next, "the wind and rain come day by day on the top of the mountain" means that the Wangfu Stone is unmoving and as solid as a rock. It has withstood the wind and rain for a long time, year after year, month after month, day and night. , however it has not changed its original intention and still stands on the river bank.
What is written here is the image and character of the stone, and it is still about the steadfastness and loyalty of the missing woman. She has gone through all kinds of hardships and suffered the torture of lovesickness, but she still cherishes her undying love and is still looking forward to the travelers in the distance. This simple and loyal integrity, this unchanging love, is awe-inspiring.
Thousands of lovesickness, thousands of separations, how much she had to say to her husband who was traveling far away! "The stone responds to the words when travelers return", the poet opened the pen at the end of the sentence and made a romantic suspense: When the husband returns from a long journey, the stone standing by the river will definitely express his love for him! However, where is the husband? When will the traveler return? "I am about to lose my heart, and Jun Huai will know it" (Guo Zhen's "Songs at Four O'clock in the Midnight: Spring Song"). Does the husband ever know that he misses his wife? On the day when travelers return, can the stones speak? These are all left to the readers to think about, but the poet stopped writing abruptly. The conclusion really contains endless meaning, leaving it for readers to chew and ponder carefully.
This poem contains rich and profound content in its plainness and simplicity.
