China's ancient literature has a history of more than 3,000 years from Shang Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty, leaving a very rich legacy for later generations. Among several main styles in ancient China, poetry and prose have the earliest generation and maturity, the longest history, the most attention and the most full development. From pre-Qin to modern times, a large number of famous books, famous artists and schools of poetry and prose have emerged. Many excellent works are still well-known and widely known. "The foot of my bed is shining with such bright light" and "I woke up easily in this spring morning", China people learned to recite when they first learned Chinese. Since primary school, especially junior high school and senior high school, ancient poetry and prose in Chinese textbooks have increased year by year. The students appreciated the literary talent and artistic conception of many works and memorized many chapters and aphorisms. However, for the study of ancient poetry, this is only the primary stage, and further reading is needed to gain a deeper understanding and more relevant knowledge.

This textbook is written to meet the needs of further study of ancient poetry and prose. It focuses on reading ancient poems from the perspective of appreciation. Let students read a certain number of famous articles in a planned way, feel their ideological and artistic charm through their own appreciation and exploration, develop their imagination and aesthetic power, improve their sensitivity to the language of ancient poetry, experience the profoundness of Chinese culture, deepen their love for the motherland and enhance their ability to use the language of the motherland. The book consists of six chapters, three chapters of poetry and three chapters of prose. After poems and articles, there are the general situation of China's ancient poems and China's ancient prose. In this way, the relatively concentrated arrangement of poetry and prose is helpful to understand their respective stylistic characteristics and master the basic knowledge of poetic style. At the same time, through the introduction of the knowledge of literary history, we can get a general understanding of the development of ancient poetry by linking the learned writers' works.

In terms of specific steps, the first item of each unit is "appreciation guidance", which introduces relevant knowledge and appreciation methods from the perspective of appreciation put forward in this unit. The second item is "Examples of Appreciation". Each unit takes a poem or prose as an example, and analyzes it from the appreciation angle emphasized in this unit, which has the nature of example demonstration for students' reference. The third and fourth items are works that provide reading appreciation around the center of this unit. Independent appreciation works are followed by the topic of "exploration and discussion", which helps students to open their minds, grasp the main points and give appropriate hints or explanations in ways and means when reading appreciation.
