The "Valley Body" was formed before Huang Tingjian became an official in Bianjing, and it was new, thin and hard, and rose rapidly. It has always been regarded as the most basic style feature of "Valley Style". In a word, the artistic style features of the "Valley Style" of seeking survival, avoiding familiarity and seeking elegance and vulgarity are as follows:
(1) For the purpose of learning Du Fu's poems and attaching importance to syntax, a system of clumsy sentences and methods was developed. There are awkward sentences in Du Fu's poems, but only occasionally. Huang Tingjian is interested in this. He deliberately changed the sentence patterns and flat lines in the metrical poems, or changed the order of sentence patterns to make the style abnormal, or changed the flat lines of one sentence to make the tone abrupt, deliberately creating an effect of breaking the balance and harmony, giving people a strange and dangerous feeling. In order to get rid of vulgarity, the words are distinctive and curious, which is the outstanding performance of the overall style of "Valley Style".
(2) Emphasize that "one word does not occupy the place", use the classics to bring forth the new, turn the vulgar into elegance, be good at point casting, and be full of thinking and machine interest. In the final analysis, the so-called "inconsistent words", "turning stone into gold" and "replacing bones with fetuses" are a question of allusions. Guti is very good at creating new ideas on ready-made allusions, that is, borrowing the words of predecessors to create new ideas, turning over old and new images, trying to avoid vulgar classics, paying attention to the transformation and development of allusions, or taking one end of them to develop, or combining several allusions to create a new artistic conception. This kind of language alchemy, which makes the image and expression of the ancients change qualitatively, turns ordinary into interesting, can be said to be the development of the usage of previous allusions, and its purpose is to "change the old into the new"
(3) If you work hard on refining words, your curiosity is still hard. In his poems, Huang Tingjian often uses the rise of words to create a sense of strangeness and pursue the beauty of language. Thinness is an important manifestation of his poetic style. Thin people, wash away lead and get rid of coquettish; Hard people are vigorous and weak. He is very particular about word-making, and is famous for using verbs, adjectives and words to assist function words. This kind of "words must come out" refines the time, taking clarity as Austria, life as innovation and astringency as health, which makes his poems surging, interesting and unique in purpose. This kind of strange practice is not only refreshing, but also easy to cause the disadvantages of being difficult to understand and immature.
