Ancient Style (Thirty-Nine)
Li Bai
When you climb high and look at the four seas, you will see how endless the world is.
Autumn is covered with frost, and the wind is blowing in the desert and cold.
Prosperity flows eastward, and everything is turbulent.
The sun covers the sky, and the clouds have no definite end.
The chaffinch nests in the sycamore tree, and the phoenix nests in the mandarin thorn tree.
It is difficult to go back and forth with swords and songs.
Translation
I climbed to a high place and looked around, but I saw the vast expanse between heaven and earth, everything was covered with severe frost, and gusts of west wind blew in the wilderness. I feel that the glory and wealth in the world is like the flowing water from the east of the Yangtze River, flowing away ruthlessly; everything in the world is like the ups and downs of the river, but it only takes a moment. The floating clouds in the sky cover the sun and cover up its brilliance. Ordinary swallows and sparrows actually build their nests in precious and rare sycamore trees, while noble mandarin ducks inhabit the thorny mandarin thorns. I'd better leave here and go back to seclusion! As I walked, I strummed my sword and sang "The Road Is Difficult". ?
