Appreciation of Sally Proude Homer's The Broken Bottle

Appreciation of the classical poem "Broken Bottle" by Suri Prudholm

The vase was broken by the fan.

The vervain in the bottle is wilting,

This blow is just a light blow,

There was silence and no one heard.

But this little wound,

Transparent crystals are gradually damaged;

Through an invisible process of determination,

Slowly spread to the whole vase.

Clear water slowly flows down,

The flowers in the bottle fade day by day;

No one has noticed it yet,

Don't touch it, the bottle is broken.

The lover's palm brushed his heart,

Usually it can also cause pain;

So the mind will split itself,

The flower of love also gradually withered.

As good as ever in the eyes of the world,

The wound on the heart deepened and expanded;

Please let this man cry by himself,

Heartbroken. Don't touch it.

Broken Bottle is selected from Suri Pradom, the French Barnabas poet's debut collection of poems, Long and Short Poems. The whole poem consists of two parts, which are relatively independent but correspond to each other and promote each other.

The first three verses are the first part of this poem, which is about a broken vase. The poet showed a high degree of Barnabas skill in his detailed description of the broken process of the vase. The words "vase", "model", "verbena", "transparent crystal" and "clear water" in the poem create a secluded atmosphere, which shows that the poet inherited the aesthetic poetic style initiated by jean paul gaultier, the author of Carving Jade with Enamel. The beauty of musical instruments brought by bright and flashing words has irresistible visual pleasure to people. For the broken vase, the poet used words such as "light touch", "slight trauma" and "dripping water", which made the poem hide some hidden power in its accurate description, as if the broken vase was the result of some unspeakable power erosion. This way of dealing with meaningless objects leaves people a space for meaningful thinking, and at the same time reveals that poets have higher interests than blindly pursuing indifference and objectivity.

In the second part of this poem, the poet made a perceptual analysis of human spiritual activities with a calm pen. A broken heart is caused by a "lover's palm", just like a broken vase is caused by a fan blowing gently. An unspeakable force causes the cracking of the mind and causes inexplicable anxiety-psychological shadow. The poet's superb skills are not only reflected in his keen capture of this inexplicable sadness, but also in his elegant and clear handling of this subtle emotion. It is not difficult to find that the two parts of the whole poem show complete consistency in the process and structure of things. In the correspondence between "vase"-"heart" and "model"-"lover's palm", the objective description in the first part becomes the mirror-like projection of the heart lake in the second part, and the static description becomes the appropriate modeling of dynamic emotion or ideological activities. The clear and appropriate words used by poets have achieved richer and simpler effects than vague words. It is no exaggeration to say that this poem is a well-structured poem with excellent wording and skillful skills. However, we should also see that although the poet's use of the formal factor of structure is relatively successful, his corresponding treatment of the two parts of the whole poem still stays in a metaphorical relationship, in which the image and artistic conception are slightly separated. It is the symbolist poets who will appear in the future, who really integrate images and artistic conception into a harmonious life, and they make the art of poetry reach a more "poetic" height. Of course, we can't criticize the author of this poem. At the moment when the objective poetic style prevails, this poem has become a rare lyric poem of Barnabas School with its delicate and practical lyricism. (Liu Bo)
