What is the difference between ancient poetry and modern poetry? Which genre expresses better?

The difference between ancient poetry and modern poetry lies in whether they adhere to the oblique rhythm. Both types of poems have their own merits. I don’t think I can say which one is better. Maybe for people who like poetry, each has its own characteristics and different tendencies.

On the whole, Chinese ancient poetry can be divided into ancient poetry and modern poetry. And "ancient style" refers to ancient style poetry. Then the difference between ancient style poetry and modern style poetry is the criterion for distinguishing ancient style poetry from modern style poetry.

Modern style poetry, also known as metrical poetry, is a fixed style that uses the parallel and oblique metrical system, antithesis, rhyme, and transitions on the basis of ancient poetry. The format is dead, more like a word game for high-level literati to express their feelings and will in regular expressions. These rules will naturally restrict the expression of many free and romantic thoughts. After the rhythm matured in the Tang Dynasty, modern poetry became more refined in the Song Dynasty, and was used more for reasoning and satire, and no longer had the momentum of Feige of the Tang Dynasty.

Archaic poetry, from the beginning of rhythmic rhymes in China until the popularization of modern Mandarin poetry today, all poetry except metrical modern poetry are collectively referred to as ancient poetry.

The difference between ancient poetry and modern poetry lies in whether they adhere to the oblique rhythm. The oblique rhythm mainly consists of oblique pattern, rhyme, antithesis, and general grammar. Modern poetry is divided into two types: five-character poems and seven-character poems. In terms of the number of sentences, they are divided into rhymed verses (four sentences), rhymed poems (eight sentences), and platoon poems (more than ten sentences). There are four basic formats of the oblique and oblique formats. All the oblique and oblique words that make up a poem need to conform to these four oblique and oblique formats in principle. At the same time, the whole poem must also abide by the rules that the entering and exiting sentences are relative, and the lower and upper sentences are mutually exclusive. Otherwise, it is out of law.

In terms of rhyme, the rhyme of modern poetry must be flat rhyme, and the rhyme must be in one rhyme to the end. It cannot change rhymes, and it cannot rhyme with adjacent rhymes (in principle). Except for the first and last couplets of these two modern-style poems, rhymed poetry and platoon poetry, all other entry and exit sentences must be in opposition. This is the antithesis principle of modern-style poetry. In the creation of old-style poetry, as long as it does not abide by the above rules, it will be classified as ancient-style poetry.

It is never easy to make analogies about things related to literary and artistic creation. We can only comment based on personal preferences. In terms of human nature, they are all freedom-loving and romantic. Therefore, it should be based on everyone's preferences. If you like the rhythmic system, antithesis, rhyme, and succession of modern poetry, then follow your own feelings to create. On the contrary, if you like the ancient style, then pursue your own style. Sentiment, you have to understand that only what you like will feel good.
