What is the meaning of "Bai Yuan Poetry School" and what are the characteristics of the works?

Bai Yuan Poetic School refers to the poetic circles from Zhenyuan to Yuanhe in the middle Tang Dynasty, with Bai Juyi and Yuan Zhen as the representatives and pragmatic, vulgar and diligent as the main creative styles.

The New Yuefu Movement advocated by Bai Yuan and others emphasized that poetry should punish evil and promote good, and make up for the function of current politics. The language is easy to understand. The creation of new Yuefu poems is the inheritance of Du Fu's new theme Yuefu. They use old topics or draw up new topics to create new Yuefu poems. In these poems, they talk about social and political issues and satirize current politics.

The poems of Yuan, Bai and others at the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Yuan Dynasty are called "Yuanhe Style" together with their colorful poems. These poems of Yuan and Bai have broken through the traditional norms and patterns of poetry from content to form, broken the mystery and elegant aristocratic spirit of poetry creation, and made them secularized into a shallow style generally accepted and appreciated by the society.
