Ancient poetry describing Jiangnan

1. The south of the Yangtze River is good - Bai Juyi of the Tang Dynasty

The south of the Yangtze River is good, and the scenery is familiar to me in the past; when the sun rises, the flowers on the river are as red as fire, and when spring comes, the river is as green as blue. Can you not remember Jiangnan?

Translation

The scenery in Jiangnan is so beautiful, the picturesque scenery has been familiar for a long time. When spring comes, the sun rises from the river, illuminating the flowers on the riverside bright red, and the green river water is greener than the blue grass. How can one not miss Jiangnan?

2. Reminiscing about the South of the Yangtze River - Huangfu Pine of the Tang Dynasty

The orchids are falling, and the dark red bananas are on the screen. Leisurely dreaming about the ripe plum blossoms in the south of the Yangtze River, the night boats playing flutes and the rustling rain, and people talking about the bridge by the post.

Translation:

As the candle burned out, the candlelight dimmed, and the canna on the screen was blurred.

I was drowsy and finally fell asleep. In my dream, I had been away from Jiangnan for a long time. It was when the green plums were ripe. During the rainy season in Jiangnan, I was alone on a boat, holding a bamboo flute in my hand, and singing along with the boat. The rustling night rain outside played to my heart's content, and sometimes I could hear the voices of people at the pavilion on the bridge, speaking in the long-lost local accent, telling unforgettable stories.

3. Recalling Jiangnan - Liu Yuxi of the Tang Dynasty

Spring is gone! Thank you, people from Los Angeles. The weak willow tree lifts its sleeves from the wind, the orchids in the bushes seem to be soaked in dew, and even sitting alone is full of tears.

4. Looking to the south of the Yangtze River - Su Dongpo of the Song Dynasty

The spring is not old, the wind is soft and the willows are slanting. If you try to stand on a transcendent stage, you will see half a ditch of spring water and a city full of flowers, and mist and rain cover thousands of houses.

Translation

Spring has not passed yet, the breeze is gentle, and the willow branches are dancing diagonally. Climbing up to the Chaoran Terrace and looking from afar, the moat is only half full with spring water flashing slightly, while the city is full of colorful spring flowers. Further away, every tile-roofed house is in the shadow of rain.

5. "Bodhisattva Man·Everyone Says Jiangnan is Good" Tang·Weizhuang

Everyone says Jiangnan is good, but tourists only like Jiangnan. The spring water is as green as the sky, and the boat is painted and sleeping while listening to the rain.

The people beside me are like the moon, and my wrists are covered with frost and snow. Don't return to your hometown before you are old. Returning to your hometown requires breaking your heart.

Translation:

Everyone says Jiangnan is good, which makes tourists just want to stay there until they grow old. The clear and green water of the river in spring is better than the blue of the sky. You can also fall asleep listening to the sound of rain outside on the painted boat.

The woman selling wine at the wine shop in Jiangnan is extremely beautiful. When selling wine, she lifts up her sleeves and fills the wine, and her exposed wrists are as white as frost and snow. Don't go back to your hometown before you get old, otherwise you will regret it because of the war in your hometown.
