What kind of thoughts and feelings did Du Fu express in The Story of Climbing Yueyang Tower?

Facing the vast and magnificent Dongting Lake, the poet sincerely admired it. Then I thought that I was still wandering in my later years, and the country was troubled, so I couldn't help but feel sad. Generally speaking, the magnificence of mountains and rivers is quite different from the magnificence of poets' hearts, so I am sad but not depressed. Although depressed, but not depressed.

Climbing Yueyang Tower

Author Du Fu

the Tang Dynasty

I heard that Dongting Lake is magnificent before, but today's wish has finally reached Yueyang Tower.

The vast lake tore Wu Chu apart, as if the sun, moon and stars were floating in the water.

There is no news from my friends or relatives. I am old and sick, drifting in a boat.

The battle of the north gate began again, and I cried through the railing.

Vernacular translation

I only heard that Dongting Lake has vast waters before, but now I have the honor to climb the Yueyang Tower by the lake.

The vast Great Lakes separate the southeast of Wu Chu, and heaven and earth seem to float on the lake day and night.

Without a word from relatives and friends, there is only one boat left in the old and weak body.

The war in the north of Guanshan has not stopped, and tears are dripping from afar.

Make an appreciative comment

This poem is a masterpiece of lyric upstairs. The first couplet "I've heard about Dongting Lake for a long time, and now I'm on this tower". Poets' yearning for Dongting Lake has a long history, which is a natural feeling in narrative scenery writing. But after all, this is a yearning for the past. It seems that their feelings should be happy when they board Yueyang Tower. Because years of longing have come true, I must be happy. But I can't see the word happiness in the sentence, and my wish can't come true.
