Two poems by Ba Jin, "Sun" and "Moon"
1. "Sun"
In pursuit of light and heat, he throws his body towards the light, Finally dead in the lamp, or dipped in oil, the moth is worthy of praise. At the last moment it received light and heat.
I miss Kuafu in ancient times. He chased the shadow of the sun and died of thirst in Yanggu.
In pursuit of light and heat, people are willing to give up their own lives. Life is lovely. But a cold, lonely life is not as good as a vigorous death.
Without light and heat, wouldn’t this world become a dark and cold world?
If I had a pair of wings, I would rather be a moth in the world. I want to fly towards the fiery sun, so that when there is a burst of light in front of my eyes and a burst of heat in my body, I lose consciousness and turn into a puff of smoke and a pinch of ashes.
2. "Moon"
Every time I look at the bright moon in the sky, I wonder: Is someone also leaning on the railing to look at the moon at this time?
The full moon is like a bright mirror, hanging high in the blue sky. Our faces should all remain in the mirror. There must be someone’s shadow in the mirror.
Looking in the mirror on a cold night, I felt a cold light hitting my face. I feel the same way when facing Liang Yue.
At sea, in the mountains, in gardens, in the streets, sometimes in the quiet night standing alone on a high terrace in the city, I look at the bright moon, and always feel the cold light and air invading my body. Late at night in winter, standing in the small courtyard and looking at the moonlight on the frosty ground, I felt as if there was thick frost on my clothes.
Indeed, the moonlight is very cold. I know that a dead planet will not emit heat. The light of the moon is the light of death.
But why is there still a legend about Chang'e flying to the moon? Could it be that the beautiful woman who took the elixir of immortality could regenerate this dead planet? Or maybe she saw someone's face in that bright mirror.
