Bai Juyi (772-846) was named Lotte, and later named "Xiangshan Jushi". Originally from Taiyuan, he moved to Xiabang (now Weinan, Shaanxi Province). In the 16th year of Zhenyuan (800), he was a scholar here. In the 18th year of Zhongshu, he was awarded the title of scholar and secretary of provincial proofreader. In his later years, he was called "Bai Fu" and "Bai Taifu" because the official prince was less rich.
Bai Juyi's poems have a wide range of themes, various forms and simple and popular language, and are known as "the poet's magic" and "the king of poets".
