In March of the second year of Tang Suzong Gan Yuan (759), the poet returned to Huazhou from Luoyang via Tongguan and visited his friend Wei Ba Chu Shi who lived in the countryside as a teenager. With simple language and realistic techniques, the poem describes the reunion with young friends after a long separation, shows the unpredictable changes in the troubled times, and expresses infinite feelings about the impermanence of life and the vicissitudes of life.
The first part (1-8 sentences) is about friends who meet after a long separation, revealing the social reality of struggle and separation and people living in poverty:
"Meeting between friends is almost as difficult as the morning star." Life is impermanent and it is really rare to meet each other. Over the years, you and I have been like two stars in the west and the east.
"So tonight is a rare event, and this lamp is candlelight." I don't know what day it is tonight, so we are so happy that we can hold a lamp and say goodbye to you.
"Two men who were young not long ago are now gray at their temples." I remember when we broke up, we were still young teenagers. Unconsciously, you and I are both white-haired now.
"It shocked us to find that half of our friends were dead, which made our hearts burn with sadness." Ask each other about the whereabouts of relatives and friends, most of whom are dead; They couldn't help exclaiming and heartbroken.
The second part (sentence 9- 18) describes the scene of Wei Ba's children and the Chu Shi family's warm hospitality:
"We didn't expect that it would be twenty years before I could come to see you again." I didn't expect to have a chance to visit after 20 years, which is gratifying.
"When I left, you were still unmarried, but now these boys and girls are in a row." You weren't married when we left. When I saw you today, my children had lined up.
"It was very kind to their father's old friends. They asked me where I went during the trip." They greeted my father's best friend happily and smoothly and enthusiastically asked me where I came from.
"Then, when we talked for a while, they brought me wine and vegetables." In a few words, before the question and answer ended, the children had set a table of wine and vegetables.
"Spring leeks are cut in the night rain, and brown rice is freshly cooked in a special way." At night, the leeks cut in the spring rain are particularly fresh and tender, and the newly steamed rice mixed with Huang Liang is delicious.
The third part (19-24 sentences) describes the melancholy that the host and guest are about to leave after drinking and meeting again:
"My host announced that this was a festival, and he urged me to drink ten glasses." The host said that it was rare to have this opportunity to meet, and he drank ten glasses of wine in a row.
"But what ten cups can make me drunk, because I always have your love in my heart? After drinking ten cups, I didn't get drunk either, because I was refreshed and had deep feelings for my old friends.
"The mountains will separate us tomorrow, and after tomorrow-who can say? "We are leaving the Ming Dynasty again, just like being cut off by mountains and mountains, and human feelings and things are so slim!

As for the stars in the morning and evening: moving, it is equivalent to "unchanged" or "just". Shen (shēn) and Shang: two constellations, living in the west, while Shang Xing lives in the east, about 180 degrees apart. One star rises, the other star sets, and we can't meet each other.
