Creative background
The film is based on Colin Clark's two memoirs "The Dragon and the Phoenix: My Half a Year on the Set with Monroe and Olivier" and "I My Week with Monroe" is adapted from two books. After director Simon Curtis obtained the film rights, he found screenwriter Adrian Hodge, who had collaborated with him on the film "David Copperfield," to write the film's script. Curtis also consulted with the producers and decided to combine elements from the two books into a screenplay. The first book gives people an interesting perspective on the filming process of "You Long Xi Feng", but what is more fascinating is the film industry at that time. The second book reveals the real life of Marilyn Monroe behind the screen.
Casting Selection
In August 2009, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Hudson, Amy Adams and Michelle Williams were rumored to be possible actors. Among the Marilyn Monroes in the film, Scarlett has the highest voice. However, three months later, Michelle Williams got the chance to play the role. She was also the only actor who was interviewed by the producers during the audition. The director chose Michelle Williams because her performances in "Brokeback Mountain" and "Blue Valentine" impressed the director, and she happened to be about the same age as Monroe.
Preparation for filming
After Michelle Williams read the script, she spent more than half a year reading various autobiographies and diaries about and from Monroe. , letters, poems, and notes. I also watched a lot of photos, movies, and soundtracks. After getting to know Monroe better, ask the choreographer to fine-tune the way she walks. Michelle Williams hopes to use these methods to increase her confidence in playing Monroe and better interpret the role.
