New Yuefu: New Yuefu refers to the Yuefu poems written by the Tang people with new titles. The Yuefu poems of the early Tang Dynasty mostly used the old Yuefu titles, but a few had new titles. This type of new Yuefu genre developed greatly with Du Fu, "it is a famous piece that has no one to rely on". Yuan Jie, Wei Yingwu, Dai Shulun, Gu Kuang, etc. also all have new Yuefu works. They can be said to be the pioneers of the New Yuefu Movement. After the Anshi Rebellion, the Tang Dynasty declined. During the Zhenyuan and Yuanhe years, the social crisis was further exposed. Some knowledgeable people had a clearer understanding of the reality and hoped to eliminate the shortcomings and revive the dynasty. Reflected in the literary world, the ancient prose movement advocated by Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan and the New Yuefu Movement advocated by Bai Juyi and Yuan Zhen emerged.
In the fourth year of Yuanhe (809), Li Shen first wrote 20 poems of "Xinti Yuefu" (now lost) and gave them to Yuan Zhen. Yuan Zhenhe composed 12 poems "He Li Xiaoshu New Title Yuefu". Later, Bai Juyi composed 50 pieces of "New Yuefu", officially naming it "New Yuefu". In this way, the massive New Yuefu Movement kicked off. As a poetry movement, the creation of new Yuefu is not limited to writing new Yuefu, but also includes ancient Yuefu. But although it uses ancient titles, it can create new ideas and reflect the direction of poetry innovation.
The basic purpose of the New Yuefu Movement is "Articles should be written according to the time; Songs and poems should be written according to the situation" (Bai Juyi's "Jiu Shu" of the Yuan Dynasty).
