A poet who is wise and graceful
——A night interview with Singapore’s famous Chinese poet and musician Guo Yongxiu
He is of medium height, speaks elegantly, speaks in a coherent manner, and speaks incessantly. There is a pair of golden glasses on the high bridge of the nose, and a pair of bright eyes flashing behind the lenses. This is Mr. Guo Yongxiu, the famous Chinese poet, musician and photographer in Singapore.
On the evening of July 24, the reporter came to the hotel where he was staying, met Mr. Guo Yongxiu, who was attending the "China-ASEAN Literary Forum" in Kunming, and had a face-to-face conversation with him. Mr. Guo, 68, was born in Guangdong Province and went to Singapore with his parents when he was a child. A former electronic security and technology lecturer at Singapore Institute of Technology, he is proficient in Chinese, English, Teochew, Hokkien, and Cantonese, and is versatile.
He is currently the honorary president of the Singapore May Poetry Society, a director of the Writers Association, an advisor to the Composers Association, the vice president of the Musicians Association, the music director and conductor of the Sing Tao Chorus and the Galaxy Folk Chamber Orchestra. . He has served as a judge for literary and artistic creation, music composition, instrumental music and vocal music competitions in Singapore and overseas. He is good at writing poetry, lyrics, music, and photography, and can integrate various arts into visual art and multimedia.
He has published 6 collections of poetry, 1 collection of essays, 1 collection of music criticism and 1 collection of songwriting. Many of his poems have been included in school and university textbooks and poetry dictionaries in Singapore and abroad.
Regarding his views on poetry, Mr. Guo has always maintained that poetry can be interpreted, but everyone’s views and understandings can be different. Even if the poet himself has his own intentions and thoughts when writing, after publication, readers can draw different conclusions based on their personal views and understandings. The language of poetry is full of ambiguity, which is the charm of poetry. To me, poetry is not only a beautiful vocabulary, a warning philosophy, nor a difficult mystery, but a product produced after the collision, communication and integration of the soul and all things. It must have connotation and poetic flavor, which makes people feel happy. I can't forget it for a long time after reading it.
Throughout Mr. Guo’s poems, he records his own mental journey, as well as the good times he shared with his fellow poets. His poems wander between realism and modernity, with a timeless and elegant style, a wide range of materials, and unique personal style and charm. The content covers family, friendship, love, current affairs, travel, photography, painting and other fields. He said that because of poetry, everyone came to meet each other thousands of miles away; because of poetry, everyone became the most sincere friends; because of poetry, everyone found the meaning of life, so his latest collection of poems was named "Because of Poetry."
Mr. Guo Yongxiu not only has high attainments in literature, but also has talent in the field of music. He said that when I was in elementary school, there was a little girl who influenced my life with her music. But she had no idea, and even to this day, we have never met again. Thinking about it today, decades later, the sound of the piano still echoes clearly in my ears, just like back then, full of dreamy colors and lingering nostalgia. That was the first time I came into contact with music and the first time I appreciated the beauty of music. From then on, I decided that when I grew up, I must own a piano and learn to play it. No one in my family has ever been into music. My father only wanted me to study hard and did not support me learning musical instruments. Many of my musical instruments, such as flute, erhu, and organ, were learned at the home of a good friend, Zuo Jie, near my home. It wasn’t until I was able to stand on my own feet and make money on my own that I got my first piano. And that girl named Xiubin, she will never know, because her piano music has affected my life. To her, I am a stranger. To me, she is not a stranger. She and her The sound of the piano always remains fresh in my memory.
The following is an excerpt from a poem "Memory of Railway Tracks" written by Mr. Guo to his wife:
The years are crushed into strands in the rumbling sound
Gone with the wind
Light smoke, sometimes thick and sometimes light
Along the direction of love
Our love
is two Parallel rails
Never give up or leave
Reaching for distant longings
Like the constantly changing scenery outside the window
The climax Or low tide
Just like inside the window, infinite joy, anger, sorrow and joy
No matter how many vicissitudes of life we ??have gone through
Different moods, one thought
In this way
Together forever
This is Mr. Guo Yongxiu's passionate poem.
Mr. Guo has high hopes for the World Chinese Literature Exhibition Hall of the Yunnan Literature and Art Museum. He said that we should carry forward and inherit the excellent traditional Chinese culture, respect the style of Chinese literary creation in the host country, and build the exhibition hall into a place where Chinese people can carry out Chinese culture. A platform for exchanges to promote the exchange and development of Chinese literature in the world.
