Scholars in the pre-Qin period are still actively seeking to change the country's policies and guidelines, so they mainly focus on the idea of joining the WTO. There are two kinds of the most famous poems in the pre-Qin period, one is the realistic literature represented by The Book of Songs, and the other is the romantic literature represented by Chu Ci. The former was more respected by the public in the pre-Qin period. Because he emphasized the contribution of a scholar-bureaucrat to the country, how much he can contribute to the unity of his country and the whole world. Although there were some Taoist thoughts in this period, on the whole, it was still represented by Confucianism, and this positive component was the main one.
Influenced by metaphysics in Wei and Jin Dynasties, poetry in the Southern and Northern Dynasties emphasized a passive and reclusive Taoist thought, which was in sharp contrast with the active entry into WTO in the pre-Qin period. After the division of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Three Kingdoms, Wei and Jin Dynasties, in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, literati had a passive thought of isolation and wanted to live in seclusion in the mountains. So in their poems, most of them expressed such an idea. Among them, Tao Yuanming and the Seven Sages of Bamboo Forest in the Eastern Jin Dynasty are famous for their influence on the literati in this period, and many literati are following their example. Most people choose to live in seclusion in the mountains instead of being an official. It can be said that they have completely despaired of the world and the country at that time. Therefore, what is expressed in poetry is a negative and desperate attitude.
To sum up, due to the different background of the times and the concept of literati in the times, the pre-Qin poetry is still dominated by the idea of actively entering the WTO, while the poetry of the Southern and Northern Dynasties has shown the negative idea of avoiding the world.
