Guo Moruo became a cultural giant in the 20th century because of two achievements that others could not achieve. One is a new poem and the other is a historical drama.
In terms of new poetry, his poetry collections were mainly created during the May 4th Movement, among which Goddess is the most representative, including Phoenix, Rebirth of Goddess, Tiangou, The Earth, My Mother and other poems. His poems completely broke the shackles of the old physical rhythm poems and were completely free and unrestrained, which injected fresh blood into the development of China's new poems and the development of new poems after the May 4th Movement. He hoped that China could be reborn and be as powerful as a phoenix.
Secondly, Guo Moruo's historical drama creation. Since the 1920s, Guo Moruo has created a large number of historical dramas, including Qu Yuan, Cai Wenji, Zhuo Wenjun and Flowers of Tang Di, among which Qu Yuan is his most representative work, which is highly ideological and artistic, and also makes his creation romantic.
Guo Moruo was an excellent poet at that time. He combined history with literature, and the writing techniques of new poems with scripts, which made historical dramas both narrative and readable. Merging the artistic conception of poetry into drama can effectively use the conflict of drama, promote the development of story plot and make people integrate into it.
