The heroes of the "Little Ghost Squad" achieved an immortal anti-Japanese legend
During the Anti-Japanese War, the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Army opened up the battlefield behind enemy lines in South China, persisted in fighting behind enemy lines, and dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese and puppets. In 1944, the Third Independent Squadron of the Fifth Brigade of the Dongjiang Column, also known as the Flying Eagles, was active in the area of ????Pinghu, Qingxi, Danshui. On the evening of July 21, the Flying Eagles gathered 150 troops and secretly marched from Huangdong, Dongguan to Pinghu, preparing to attack the puppet police squadron stationed in Pinghu.
At 4 o'clock in the morning on July 22, the battle started. The first squad of the Flying Eagle Squadron (known as the "Little Ghost Squad"), as a commando team, under the leadership of squad leader Huang You, killed the enemy sentries and launched a fierce attack on the pseudo police station with the close cooperation of the brother troops. During the battle, Huang You and his comrades suppressed the enemy with grenades, opened passages with small packets of explosives, and rushed into the enemy camp under the cover of machine gun fire. The battle was resolved in just over 20 minutes. In this battle, the puppet squadron was completely wiped out, the Japanese advisers were killed, more than 40 enemies were captured, and more than 70 long and short guns were seized. During the battle, Charlie Li, the deputy squad leader of the "Little Ghost Squad", was unfortunately shot and died.
At dawn that day, the Flying Eagles escorted the prisoners and retreated towards Guanjingtou, Fenggang, Dongguan. Huang You led the "little ghost squad" at the front and served as the vanguard. When they arrived near Shaling Village at the foot of Laohu Mountain, , encountered more than 400 Japanese troops. The enemy had already occupied favorable high ground at this time, but the Flying Eagles were marching in an open rice field area, and the situation was very unfavorable. In order to cover the retreat of the main force, Huang You commanded the "little ghost squad" to seize a higher field dike in the rice field and launch a blockade against the Japanese army.
Huang You led the "little ghost squad" soldiers to respond calmly. When the enemy rushed within the rifle range, he suddenly fired, repelling the enemy's charge. For more than an hour that followed, Huang You and others persisted in fighting on the position, repelling multiple enemy attacks and killing and wounding more than 40 Japanese soldiers until more than 100 of the main force of the Flying Eagles safely evacuated from the open area. During the battle, Fu Tiancong, Yin Lin, Lai Zhiqiang, Li Ming and other soldiers died one after another. The Japanese army launched a new charge. At this time, Huang You's thigh was broken and he was seriously injured, but he still continued to fight with his comrades. Seeing that a new soldier was seriously injured, he ordered him to retreat while he stayed on the ground to cover. After the bullets were fired, he buried the documents and shell gun he carried with him into the mud of the rice field, struggled to throw the last grenade at the enemy, and finally died heroically (Huang You and the "Little Ghost Ban" soldiers were both under 20 years old when they died).
After the war, the Flying Eagle team returned to the battle scene and found the bodies of Huang You and other martyrs, as well as the pistol and "Instructions for Party Members" buried by Huang You. All the team members burst into tears.
Two months later, the Flying Eagles annihilated the Japanese defenders in the battle of Shimaqiao and paid tribute to their fallen comrades with victory. He Tong, the captain of the Flying Eagles, wrote the article "Heroes at the foot of Tiger Mountain", describing the glorious deeds of Huang Youban. The Political Department of the Dongjiang Column Headquarters issued a notice, awarding Huang You the glorious title of "Anti-Japanese Hero", and named "Little Ghost Ban" "Named "Huang You Class". The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China ratified Huang You as a "Fighting Hero of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force" and a "Model Member of the Communist Party of China", and Yan'an's "Liberation Daily" reported his deeds in detail.
