Yang Guang, the Emperor of Yang Di in Sui Dynasty, never mastered this most exquisite court style-Southern Scenery Poetry, and could not find any trace of trying to create this kind of poetry. When making poems directly related to court life, he found that the theory of emperor's dignity and opposing poetry's lack of aesthetics was quite appropriate. On the other hand, the soft Yuefu poems of the Southern Dynasties and the praise of "a better life" often appear in his works.
Most of Yang Di's southern-style poems, like his imperial poems, show the conscious hobbies of specific characters. In this poem, readers can see the consciousness of treating the south as an independent entity, which is quite different from the assumption that the court poets think the south is the world. Emperor Yang Di observed the south from the outside. [2]
