Solon (Solon, 638 BC - 559 BC) was born in Athens and came from a declining aristocracy. When he was young, he was engaged in business while traveling. He visited many places, roamed around historical sites and inspected social customs. Solon was an ancient Athenian politician, legislator, poet, and one of the Seven Sages of Ancient Greece. Solon served as the first consul of the city-state of Athens in 594 BC, formulating laws and carrying out reforms, known in history as "Solon's reforms." He also had achievements in poetry, and his poems mainly praised the city-state and laws of Athens. He was one of the most outstanding politicians in ancient Greece and an accomplished poet.
