Cao Yu is a writer in the history of China's drama. Most of the drama pioneers before him used drama as a tool to publicize and advocate the idea of democratic revolution, so they didn't have the opportunity to examine the artistic problems of drama more. Cao Yu inherited the pioneer's anti-imperialist and anti-feudal democratic spirit, and at the same time widely borrowed and absorbed the expression methods of China's classical operas and modern European dramas, which raised the art of China's drama to a new height. His Thunderstorm became a symbol of the maturity of China's drama art, and the following works, Sunrise, Beijingers and Home, were also excellent works. Cao Yu's works have also had a far-reaching impact on the director, performing arts and stage arts, making drama a real comprehensive art and winning more audiences for drama, thus developing and improving the art of drama. His works, especially Thunderstorm and Sunrise, have been performed the most times in the past 50 years, and have always been the reserved repertoire of the troupe and the experimental repertoire of colleges and universities. At the same time, it has been translated into many languages and staged abroad. Cao Yu's works include Thunderstorm (1933), Sunrise (1935), Transformation of Yuan Ye (1937) and Beijingers (1939).
