Rhetorical devices in modern poetry

Rhetorical devices in modern poetry

1. Metaphor

For example, "the gentleness of bowing one's head/the lotus-like shyness that can't overcome the cool breeze" (Xu Zhimo's Poem Anna La, 12 page) (the fusion of metaphor and personification).

compare

"The sail kisses the dark water/looks like a black butterfly and a white butterfly" (Xin Di's Sail, page 59), which integrates personification, imitation and description.

paint

"A big white star,/like a cold tear flowing to a distant night" (He Qifang's Love, page 30) is a fusion of metaphor, analogy and description.

Step 4 be parallel

"Tonight, there must be a silver dream/like a dove's bathing wings/like Su Lian's petals falling from Shui Ying/like the autumn sound of plane leaves like glass/flowing on the frosted tiles." (He Qifang's Under the Moon, page 3 1) This is a combination of metaphor, analogy and description, synaesthesia (extrasensory) and parallelism.

5. Common feelings

"There is sweet sorrow in that treasure" (page 12 of Xu Zhimo's Biekang Bridge) is the transcendence or connection between hearing and taste. The dimension of association is from the outside to the inside, and the description method is to turn abstraction into concrete.

reverse

For example, "you stand on the bridge and watch the scenery,/the people watching the scenery look at you." /The bright moon has decorated your window,/You have decorated other people's dreams "(Bian's Broken Chapter, page 34), which shows the opposite speculative interest through angle conversion. The first two sentences in the above example also use thimbles.

7. Casing

"Listening to the morning breeze blowing/blowing the color of the western hills" (Xin Di's Farewell, page 62) is a combination of thimble and synaesthesia, which changes from reality to emptiness, from unreachable to inaudible, to possible, visible and sensible.

8. Lianlian

For example, "How many pedestrians were hit by louder voices tonight" (Xin Di's Winter Night, page 63) is a mixture of many factors, conjunctions, metonymies, argots and comparisons, which make the loneliness of the vast desert condense into a little first, and then expand outward, which makes people feel the same.

9. Resettlement

Such as "all the mulberry leaves in the passbook have been picked,/where is the phone on the window?" (Li Shijie's "Post-war" page 58), the former sentence can be regarded as a nudge, and the latter sentence points to the point, secretly moving with patience, and calling back the stack into mulberry leaves, which can be learned, virtual and real, and has a clear effect.

10. logo

For example, "Night gave me black eyes/I used them to find light" (Gu Cheng 96 generation) is concise and profound, showing the amazing charm of symbolic rhetoric with profound meaning.

1 1. exaggeration

We don't boast that the hull is crowded with rivers, and we don't boast that the bow touches white clouds. We just applaud the waves and watch them hold up Kunlun Mountain. ("Ten Thousand Tons of Ships Earn Water")

12. Ask questions

Am I attached to that cruel battle? No, I look forward to winning the battle every day. (Guo Xiaochuan's "In the Mountains" VII)

13 repeat

Submerged in the creeping weed, her sadness; Submerged in the creeping weeds, her sadness-(Xu Zhimo's Ye Ji-Su Su)
