Bai Juyi of the Tang Dynasty pointed out in "Nine Books with Yuan Dynasty":
"Whenever you talk to people, you should inquire more about current affairs; whenever you read history, you should seek more truth. Only then will you know how the articles fit together. "Write for the time, write poetry for the occasion."
This is the famous slogan put forward by Bai Juyi when he advocated the "New Yuefu" movement, and it is the theoretical program of the realist creative method. He required that poetry creation should be inspired by specific events and serve real social politics, rather than just expressing personal feelings and becoming a tool for lingering on the scene. He personally not only emphasized it theoretically, but also practiced his ideas with a large number of poems. Although there is no need to emphasize that poetry creation must all start from certain specific events and mechanically interpret politics, we must still pay attention to expressing true feelings and make our works produce positive social benefits as much as possible. These two sentences have had a profound influence in the history of Chinese literature, and can now be quoted when discussing how literary creation must have a clear creative purpose and the content must be substantial.
