Yangjiang City is a prefecture-level city under provincial jurisdiction, directly under Guangdong Province.

Yangjiang is one of the metropolitan areas on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary. Located in the southwest of Guangdong Province, adjacent to the Pearl River Delta and bordering on western Guangdong. Jiangmen in the east, Maoming in the west, Nanhai in the south and Yunfu in the north. It governs Jiangcheng District, Yangdong District, Yangxi County and Yang Chun, and establishes Hailing Island Economic Development Experimental Zone and Yangjiang High-tech Industrial Development Zone. The total area is 7955.9 square kilometers. Yangjiang shenyang-haikou expressway, Yuexi Coastal Expressway, Shanzhan Expressway, Zhongshan-Yangchun Expressway, National Highway 325, Sanmao Railway, Yang Yang Railway and Shenzhan Railway run through the whole territory.
