Alas, I came to that white mountain again.
At that time, grass was untouchable,
I don't want to change its green color.
This color is deeply rooted, and on hard stones,
Stone can talk and listen, just like a girl.
Similarly, this girl from heaven,
Frozen in the shade like snow;
Time can't impress her, but the stone is square;
Sweet time, warm those hills,
It turns the white on the mountain into green,
So Kobanawa grass can grow on the mountain.
When she wears a wreath on her head and weaves it with straw,
Our hearts will not pay attention to other girls;
Because she put the wavy yellow and green,
Well mixed, love stand in their shadow,
So you locked me in the mountains,
The locking degree is stronger than mud sticking to stones.
Her beauty is more powerful than stone,
The wound she caused is not curable by grass;
I fled from east to west, across plains and hills,
In order to avoid such girls.
Nothing can stop her from hiding in the shade,
Whether it's a wall or a green leaf.
I saw her wearing a green dress.
The style of clothes makes stone feel uncomfortable when he sees it.
I used this to hide myself in her shade;
I hope she's in a meadow,
Fall in love like other girls,
The meadow is surrounded by high hills.
But the river has flowed back to the mountain,
When the soft green trees are not on fire,
For me, beautiful girls are always like this;
I really want to sleep on rocks all day,
At the same time, running around and feeding on grass,
Just want to see where her clothes cast a shadow.
Whenever the hills disperse the dark shadows,
There are no young girls under the beautiful green,
It's no different from a man building a stone under the grass.

This poem, also known as "Stone Poetry", is dedicated to a woman named Pietra Etla (meaning stone). Poetry adopts the meter of six-rhyme poetry; The whole poem is divided into six sections, each with six lines, and the end of three lines is added. The last word of each line in the first section (in this poem: shadow, hill, grass, green, stone, girl) repeats in different order at the end of other sections; These six words are at the end, three words appear in the line and three words are at the end of the line. This complex meter was first seen in Provence's works, but it really took shape in Dante's hands. Dante wrote four such poems.
The theme of this poem is clear, describing the love for a charming woman in Leng Yan. However, the essence of poetry has always been controversial. Some people say that poetry is about true love, and the woman mentioned is also a real person; More people regard this poem as an allegorical poem, and think that love and women in the poem are symbols; In addition, some researchers believe that this poem is only a poetic exploration and attempt, with the nature of word games. Judging from Dante's whole creation, there are indeed many allegorical poems in the form of love poems. For example, some poems in Song Collection praise "philosophy" and often describe it as "gentle woman" or "cold woman". But as far as the poem itself is concerned, there is no obvious trace of meaning or symbol, so it seems more reasonable to regard it as a pure love poem. What's more worth mentioning is that this poem also surpasses many of the poet's early love poems in lyrical intensity. The love in the poem is no longer the kind of tender love that was common in the past, but a kind of * * * love captured by secular love. This marks the end of the "tender new style" period of Dante's love poems.
This poem is also unique in describing natural scenery. In Dante's early lyric poems (such as "New Life"), landscape writing is often just an ornament. This poem runs through landscape writing. The poet skillfully combines scenery description with character description and emotional expression. There are two natural images in the whole poem; One is white hills and stones; The second is shade and grass. As far as writers are concerned, the former symbolizes the ruthlessness of the heroine, while the latter represents her beauty and moving. As far as lyricism is concerned, these two groups of images imply the psychological changes caused by love. In a short space, poetry seamlessly connects emotions, scenery, characters and other factors, making it an inseparable artistic whole, which truly fully shows the poet's extraordinary artistic skills.
