Xie Mian started his literary creation on 1948, and published poems and essays in Central Daily, Xingmin Daily and Fujian Times. Since 1950s, he has been engaged in the research of China's modern and contemporary literature and poetry theory criticism. He is the author of more than ten academic monographs, such as Lake Poetry Review, China Starlight, Green Revolution of Literature, The Sun in the New Century, Great Transformation-Cultural Research in the Post-new Era (co-author), 1898: A Hundred Years' Worry, On China Literature in the Twentieth Century, and a collection of essays. Xie Mian also edited many large-scale series, such as 20th Century China Literature (volume 10), Centennial China Literary Classics (volume 8) and Centennial China Literature General (volume 12). The monograph "On China Literature in the Twentieth Century" won the Outstanding Achievement Award of China Contemporary Literature Research Association.
Scholars are Happy People is an article about reading written by Professor Xie Mian, which was first published in China Reading Newspaper on July 6th. Later, it was included in the book Forever Campus, which was published by Peking University Publishing House.
