What role did the Nujiang River play in ancient times?

Nujiang River is one of the great rivers in the southwest of China. It is named after the Nu people living on both sides of the river, also known as Lujiang River. Because the river is black, Gong Yu, the earliest geographical work in China, called it "Heihe River", and the Lisu language called the Nujiang River "Nu Man Scraped", that is, the place where Nu people lived.

Nu nationality is one of the oldest indigenous peoples in Nujiang Gorge. Nu people call the Nu River "a Japanese and American Nu people", which is what Nu people call themselves. "Japan and America" means "Jiang", which means the river where Nu people live.

During the Warring States Period more than 2,400 years ago, in the Nujiang area centered on Baoshan, a complex ethnic group "Ailao Yi" rose, and Ailao regime and unique Ailao culture were established.

During the Han Dynasty, with the expansion of the territory of the Central Plains Dynasty, Wang Liumao attached to it, Yongchang County was established, and the Central Plains culture was rapidly injected. Since then, the Nujiang River has been under centralized jurisdiction. During the Tang Dynasty, the Nujiang River Basin was incorporated into the territory by Nanzhao State, and Lanping, Bijiang, Fugong and Gongshan on both sides of the Nujiang River belonged to Jianchuan Festival. Lushui belongs to Yongchang Festival.

Nanzhao was deeply influenced by the Central Plains culture, and produced many famous poets such as Nanzhao Yixin and Yang Qikun. The following song "Qing Ping Official Fu for Tanabata Tour Typhoon Shelter" was wholeheartedly advised by Nanzhao to find the pavilion:

Take shelter from the wind and make good use of Taiwan Province. Sad past and present, still smoke and moon. I live in Sinian, and I am the guardian. Yesterday, the emperor was lucky, but loyalty to the monarch was difficult. Don't feel the old clouds, feel the stars return to the festival. Chang Yuan had the same heart, and his descendants were shocked.

During the Song Dynasty, that is, during the Dali Kingdom in Yunnan, Lanxi County was established in Lanping, which was subordinate to the Moutong government.

Jiang, Fugong, belong to Lanxi County and Lushui County. Lu Shui Qing, a famous poet in the Southern Song Dynasty, describes the activities on both sides of the Nujiang River at that time.

Ethnic relations: Lushui is clear and mirror-like. In western Sichuan, rivers flow, and in Neijiang, life is like a wanderer. At the intersection of the two rivers, there are more than 100 pheasants, which benefit both inside and outside, such as a family with limited teeth and lips. Yunnan and Yelang are just east and west neighbors. The danger of mountains and rivers lies in people, and the arrogance of Wuhou lasts forever. Fan Hou had Chinese-English mixed-race people, descendants of Wen Zhong in Shu. They had a clear-cut stand and were full of energy. Set the court high, admire the gentry, and get drunk. Wutai was so ashamed to show up and stayed in Jiang Haixin's court for ten years. ..... Lushui implemented the toast system in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. During the reign of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, the land was changed to a stream and Lanzhou Prefecture was established.

There are 22 ethnic groups living on both sides of the Nujiang River, including Lisu, Dulong, Nu, Pumi, Bai, Tibetan and Han, among which the local ethnic groups living for generations are Lisu, Nu, Dulong, Tibetan, Bai and Pumi. These ethnic groups have their own unique life, clothing, diet and cultural customs.

Snow-capped mountains and forests, rapids and waterfalls, rock peaks and canyons, gurgling hot springs, caves, alpine lakes, Lisu traditional duet, bathhouse, knife and pole festival, mythical Nuhua Festival and Dulong cattle hunting activities with strong primitive religious colors, as well as wedding customs, food, clothing, housing and transportation, funeral etiquette, sacrificial activities and totem worship of all ethnic groups.

Baoshan City on the Nujiang River, formerly known as Ailao, was renamed Fearless after descendants of Lv Buwei in Qin Dynasty moved to Baoshan Jinji. Since the Eastern Han Dynasty, it has been called Yongchang. During Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty, it was renamed Baoshan.
